"Super happy with LA Reglazing! They reglazed our old bathtub and made it look brand new. The job was done quickly, and the quality is top-notch — no weird smells or streaks, just a super clean, glossy finish. Customer service was also great they explained the process, gave a fair quote, and were on time. Definitely exceeded expectations."

"Very professional and also personable. Came out and replaced the water heater (which started leaking Thanksgiving night) promptly. Convinced me that it is necessary to drain the first 5 gallons or so every year to ensure there's no build up of sediment inside which contributes to the tank failure. They are very knowledgable about all kinds of plumbing projects, and I recommend them."

"Ory, at Universal Home Design, is a professional and extraordinary contractor.  He was referred to me by a good friend.  From the first call to the completion of the project, we felt confident and trusting of Ory and his crew.

At first, I reached out to inquire about fixing water damage from an ongoing leak from the third floor down to the basement.  Ory said he could come by that same day, then gave me a time and showed up within minutes of the appointment.

He was very friendly and patient as he sat down and took his time to get to know me, my in-laws (it was their house) and, my husband, answering all the questions we had and making sure everyone was on the same page.

As he began to investigate the root of the problem, he walked us around the area, explaining his findings and the ways to fix it.
The original plan was to replace the shower, but as our family felt more confident with Ory, we decided to remodel the entire bathroom.
This was exciting yet nerve-wracking for my retired in-laws but Ory went beyond his call of duty and treated them like friends, walking us through the entire process.  He made things easy, bringing samples for us to choose from and giving clear, direct instructions on the items we needed to order.  When we went to the tile store, he came along and gently guided us.  He never pushed a product or style and was very good at listening, and communicating his ideas, suggestions, advice and concerns.

The crew, at Universal Home Design, were on time every day on the job.  They were courteous and hard working and always cleaned up after themselves. Ory always introduced every crewmember so we knew their names and who was coming through the house.

Throughout the remodel, he kept me on track with the fixtures and timeline I needed to order them.  He was thorough, always making sure I have the info and specs I needed for the research to make my selection.
When things were installed, Ory would check in to see if we were happy and he always prefaced with, "if you're not happy, I have no problem taking it out and doing it again."  He would never make you feel guilty or bad about anything.  Actually, when our bathtub was installed, we realized it was too small so he took it out, ordered and paid for a new one and took the loss on the return.

When I went out of town, leaving my retired parents with Ory in the middle of the project, he texted and called periodically to give me updates and sent pictures of the progress.  My parents had no issues or concerns throughout the entire process.  I think Ory probably sets the record for the most responsive and communicative contractor in the world - for real!

I can not say enough great things about Ory.  The bathroom looks amazing and my parents are really enjoying it.  The quality and workmanship are superb and we are very pleased, especially my parents who get to enjoy it.

I highly recommend Ory and his team but with reservation because I'd rather keep Universal Home Design all to ourselves!

"We got our kitchen fully renovated and I wanted to sit on this review for a month before sharing. While my husband and I are super pleased with how our kitchen turned out, we found parts of the communication process to be lacking and honestly didn't feel like we were a big priority for their team. There were small inconsistencies in what was communicated prior to the project start versus during (ex. design turnaround time, availability to work on weekends, not being clear on when items needed to be ordered and then asked when said items were being delivered, etc). Our kitchen finished on schedule but I didn't feel they tried to get it done sooner although there were opportunities to do so. The team was friendly and communication was fine when I reached out but I expected more from their team when they had advertised as providing white-glove service and that was a big reason as to why we chose them."

"We first called Gino almost a year ago, and didn’t really know exactly what we wanted to do. He gave us some good ideas, and we took some time to think about it. When we were finally ready and called him again, I wasn’t sure he would remember us, but he remembered everything we had talked about and even noticed a French door we had replaced. Gino definitely knows his job well. He suggested a paint color based on the type and color of flooring we selected, and after examining a dozen color cards, we ended up liking and choosing the one he suggested in the first place. Throughout the job, he was on site daily, checking up on the work, and we were always in contact. We always knew what the next step in the process would be, and I never had trouble getting a hold of him if I had questions. In terms of actual cost versus estimate, the quote he gave of $29,000 came out to be $29,200 – no hidden thousand dollar surprises. Everything was done in the time and for the cost that we planned for. Choosing a contractor can be difficult – it’s someone that will be in your home and in your life. Go with Gino and things will be great! We found him because of all of these excellent reviews, and now I’m glad to be writing one of my own. Thanks Gino!"

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Resurfacing a bathtub is less expensive than replacing one. Resurfacing a tub costs about $330 to $630, depending on the material, while replacing a tub costs an average of $4,150. But remember that resurfacing is a temporary solution for a worn-out tub, and you may need to refinish a tub every few years to keep it looking new.

Alcove tubs come in fiberglass, acrylic, or enameled steel. Fiberglass is the most affordable but least durable, while acrylic is the highest-end and most durable (as long as you don’t go with a poor grade of acrylic, which will be prone to scratches). Enameled steel, where a steel tub is coated in a layer of porcelain, is a wallet-friendly middle ground. This material is highly durable but prone to chips.

The plumbing industry has standardized the sizes for bathtub drains. They are 1 1/2 inches wide to fit all standard bathtubs from 14 to 26 inches deep. The standard sizing is to ensure that the drain fits into the P trap, a special part of your piping that prevents sewer water from bubbling up into your home (yuck).

You can resurface or reglaze your bathtub, and it’s faster and less expensive than replacing a bathtub. Plus, replacing a bathtub is an extensive and intrusive process that requires wall repairs. Refinishing is an excellent option if the old one is in good working condition.

There are also options to install a bathtub liner over your existing tub. However, if you’re seeking a new bathtub with new features, you’ll likely want to replace your tub.

Whether converting a tub to a shower is worth it depends on your personal circumstances and priorities. For many, a shower is a safer option that reduces the risk of slip-and-fall accidents, making it a valuable upgrade. It can also be a worthwhile conversion if a shower is more practical for your lifestyle and you rarely use the tub. However, there are potential downsides to consider. The cost, which can range from $1,200 to $8,000, can be a deterrent. Additionally, if you have young children, a bathtub is often easier for bathing them. Finally, removing the only bathtub in a home can potentially lower its resale value in the eyes of some buyers.
