Small jobs welcome

"I had a block wall with cracks in it, that my side gate was attached to, but falling off. I needed the wall repaired, and the gate flipped around so the weight of the gate wasn't on the wall. I saw a truck with Masonry Repair Services sign on it. I stopped and spoke with Alex who said he could stop by in an hour to look at the job. He did and sent me an estimate the next day. The estimate was very reasonable and he offered to do the job 2 days later. He arrived on time and got to work right away. He worked about 7 hours on the job, and when he was finished I was amazed!! The wall was not only repaired perfectly, but it was rock solid, and perfectly color matched. The gate was flipped so the weight hung on the board attached to the house, and the catch for the gate was attached to the board attached to the wall, which was falling off the wall before he reattached it. I couldn't be any happier with his work, price, and attitude. I would highly recommend Alex, I am very pleased with him."

"Randy is absolutely amazing and I'm grateful I found him through my realtor. Randy will answer any questions with a smile. His team repainted my kitchen cabinets, repainted all walls and ceilings, renovated a bathroom, built a fireplace, and updated my garage. Everything looks beautiful and I can't recommend him enough!"

"Richard, owner of Fix All Guard, LLC is the best contractor I have ever worked with. We placed a job for some repairs to our manufactured home that needed to be done ASAP. He was the first to call. He was very easy to talk to. He listened to my concerns, said that he could help me and would give me an estimate the next day. The next day, we received an estimate that we were very pleased with and we hired him. Throughout the job, his communication was excellent. He promptly returned my calls and texts. He kept me informed throughout the entire process. When any issue occurred, he called and we discussed options. He was able to problem solve and as a result of that, he saved me hundreds of dollars. He is completely reliable. When he gave us a time and date to be at the job site, he was there right on time. His work was precise, accurate and done to code. Fix All Guard is a company you can count on 100% To me, he is a Five Star PLUS five extra stars! Just amazing."

"Our backyard job included a retaining wall, patio, staircase and sod. Brandon, Oz and the crew did an amazing job on all aspects of the project. They brought a glitch in the stairway to our attention and resolved the issue quickly and that portion was finished the next day. They were straightforward, efficient and very easy to work with. We are extremely pleased with the results and would definitely recommend them."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.
