"Grover is the best!!!! He cleaned all of the carpet upstairs in our home AND cleaned/polished the wood downstairs. He gets the job done quickly and thoroughly every time, he even cleans the baseboards so everything looks brand new after he leaves and the house smells amazing. Best part is his prices - he’s extremely reasonable and is always willing to work with people. Apart from how great of a worker he is - he’s friendly, trustworthy, respectful, and all around a really nice guy. I know I’ll be calling him back the next time my puppy makes another mistake on the carpet or to prepare for holiday time and having family over!"

House Cleaning questions, answered by experts

No, soap scum doesn’t cause mildew, but the two substances often appear in the same spots. If soap scum is left to sit long enough and if the area stays damp, mildew and mold can grow on top of it. When these fungi combine with soap scum, your surface can become discolored, grimier, smelly, and more difficult to clean.

No, vinegar does not disinfect hardwood floors safely. A vinegar and water solution can effectively clean many hard surfaces, but it is acidic enough to break down the finish on hardwood floors and damage the wood underneath. Over time this will dull the floors and reduce their shine. A damaged finish will also leave floors susceptible to moisture and other problems.

Knowing how to clean baseboard heaters is worth it, because this skill means your heating system will work more efficiently. By clearing out dirt and debris from the metal fins inside the heater, they can better transfer heat. Not only does this keep you nice and warm, but it may lower your energy bills, too.

According to the National Library of Medicine, ethyl alcohol is the best disinfectant for killing the flu virus, while bleach effectively kills bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Other efficient disinfectants include diluted bleach solutions, rubbing alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide. Consult a local cleaning pro before applying these chemicals as disinfectants.

Soot can be harder to remove compared to other types of stains given its acidic nature. It can also cause underlying paint to peel off during the cleaning process. If your soot issue is a result of smoke damage, it’s recommended you call a pro to help remove it versus doing it yourself.
