"This was a complete landscape redo for our residence. The project included fencing and painting, repair redwood deck and paint, install pavers and fire pit, remove grass and install synthetic turf, large tree removal, hedge removal, destruction and removal of sidewalk and replacement with pavers, replacement of lawn with decorative rock and succulents/cactus, complete irrigation overhaul and installation of drip system, install landscape lighting. "Excellent! Chris, the owner was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, honest and responsive. His workers were outstanding.— they took care and pride in their work. I checked over 100 different kinds of turf and Omega had the best, most realistic looking turf our there. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Omega for any size job, big or small!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The most important thing to put under a rock garden is the appropriate soil. The specific soil needed will depend on the type of plants you’re growing as well as the environment you live in. You can also put non-woven or woven fabric under the rocks to add to the garden's structural stability.

The primary disadvantages of xeriscaping are the high upfront cost and the significant labor required to establish it. A xeriscaping project can cost between $3,000 and $24,000 on average. Additionally, the resulting landscape will have less of a traditional green appearance, which may not appeal to everyone's personal taste and could potentially narrow your pool of buyers if you decide to sell your home. However, despite these initial drawbacks, the long-term benefits include saving water, time, and money on lawn maintenance.

It is possible to DIY complete hardscaping projects, but in most cases, hiring a professional is best to get the job done correctly. Hardscaping—including installing patios, decks, retaining walls, walkways, and water features—is challenging and time-consuming, so the money you spend on a professional is typically worth it. Not only will the quality be better, but you could avoid problems that come along with a lack of hardscaping experience, like drainage issues that can lead to costly foundation damage and leaks in your home.

Since you’ll likely be digging a trench to install your yard drainage system, this is a good time to complete other tasks that involve digging up your yard, including: Sprinkler system installation Lawn reseeding Regrading your yard Redesigning your landscaping If your drain is under a walkway or driveway, your contractor must also remove those materials. This is a great time to consider upgrading your hardscaping features, especially if they’re nearing the end of their life span.

The best time to plant is between spring and autumn. Springtime weather is typically mild and is when nurseries start to bloom. When the summer weather arrives and it’s hot out, it’s best to avoid planting bare-root plants, but you can still plant many in-container varieties. The first sign of fall is another great opportunity to plant biennials if you live in southern states, or a lovely vegetable garden up north.
