"I am so very pleased with the work that Thomas Parks and his crew accomplished on my home/decks/roofs and gazebo. It took three weeks but he was very thorough. The first day was powerwashing the house. One day to dry and then each day thereafter there was a crew of five. The preparation work was extremely tedious. They used hand powersanders to cover almost every inch to even out cracks and layers of old paint. It was no easy job. In some spots it is three levels.....up and down ladders; and it just happened to be very hot weather. After completing Thomas asked me to write a list of things that might need touch up. Again, I was impressed. As we walked around the house/decks/gazebo together he spotted some small things that I did not see. That is to say, he is very honest and trustworthy. I highly recommend Thomas Parks Contracting. Thomas Parks and company is a company of high work ethics, trustworthy and honest. I will certainly call him for any other work that I might need."

"We hired Miguel and his crew when we first moved in to install a railing to our basement stairs.  The stairs had a handrail on one side but no spindles and no rail or spindles on the other side.  With small children in the house, this was a safety hazard.  I interviewed 3 contractors and Miguel gave us the best pricing and several options on how to install the rail and spindles.  He and his assistant was able to install a railing that matched the existing railing.  The railing and spindles they installed are SOLID and look great.  They also were able to install a fan in one of the bathrooms.  They connected the vent to an existing vent from another bathroom so did not have to put another hole on the side of my house, which I appreciated.  It was a big job and they got it done all in one day, which was impressive.  My husband was at home at the time and reported that Miguel and his assistant worked very hard and were very professional.
A few months later, we hired Miguel to replace the supporting posts to our deck. Our deck is one story off the ground and the existing supporting posts were not large enough (not up to code).  Miguel put a large horizontal beam across the bottom of the deck and attached 3 sufficiently large vertical supports to the horizontal beam.  They did a good job but the only thing was they did not paint the post to match the rest of the deck.  (Perhaps we should've been more clear about our expectations.)  Also, they used shims on one of the posts and it looks a little unfinished, but the deck seems to be fine so perhaps it's just cosmetic.  Overall, we are please and would hire Cancun Construction again.

"When Brian Broderick arrived, he brought his friend Bill.  Upon examining the wood rot, it was determined that the rot was extensive and "definitely a two man job."  Before Brian started work I asked him if I could get a contract in writing breaking out labor and parts.  Brian hesitated saying he didn't know how much things were going to cost, it would mean he would have to do the write-up the next day and that would make him late to the job...  I insisted and I got a work statement for $800.  As the work progressed more things were identified as needing replacement and I agreed.  Brian did not inform me of how much more it was going to cost and I did not prod him.  But I was surprised to learn at the end of the project that the additional work cost an additional $850; total cost $1650.
  While I thought it was expensive to pay $140 to install weather stripping, Brian did spend a lot of time and did a good job.
  The work on the deck was excellent; however, I was suprised to find out that because I requested an additional 2% of extra space be covered, it would cost me an additional $575.
  While the final work was excellent, I attribute that to his friend Bill, who was a work horse.  Brian is slow, as other reviewers have commented.  If you hire him, it is important to establish the price and constantly inquire about what the addtional charges will be as Brian doesn't keep you apprised.  He basically charges contractor rates, but he can be slow and that can add up to an expensive charge. 
   There was an additional man who assisted both Brian and Bill.  They cleaned up well after the job was completed and were always pleasant.

"Requested and got estimate for rebuilding 16' square wood deck. Agreed on price and advanced funds for materials, only to receive phone call regarding additional charge for material delivery. Im agreed, and paid. Les came with helper, and removed old deck, piling rotten wood and other waste at corner of yard. When I asked how waste was to be disposed of, he said, "I don't know, that's your responsibility". I had to arrange and pay for delivery of dumpster - Les and his helper did grudgingly agree to help fill the dumpster. While he said the job would take 2 days, and started on Thursday, by the end of the day Friday, when job wasn't finished, he said he couldn't return on Saturday, but would on Sunday. His helper actually seemed more knowledgeable about deck construction. Despite my repeated comments regarding spacing of deck boards, he refused to leave any space between boards, and only said that as boards "dried out", there would be space for drainage. He did return on Sunday, and did finish the deck, and left late Sunday afternoon, without cleaning up any of the surrounding debris. I then spent 2 days picking up debris, deck screws and construction waste from our lawn. Furthermore, in screwing down decking, Les drilled through an electrical cord linking the sprinkler timer to a number of valves. When told about this, he first refused responsibility, the reluctantly returned to replace the damaged wire. After doing so, and even though the sprinkler system still would not work as before, he refused to do any other work to remedy what several knowledgable parties say was clearly his responsibility, including replacing the board that was removed by another handyman to access the wire. After three people who know about these things tried to reset/reprogram timer, it was determined that the puncture of the wire, and the splicing of a new wire improperly by Les has caused the timer's brain to be damaged. Les refused to reimburse us for even part of the cost of new sprinkler timer and installer cost. When confronted by phone, he made a number of accusations regarding other's people being responsible, including our gardner, who has installed many timers without a problem."
