"Garafano Electric has being taking care of all the electrical needs and upgrades in our 90 plus year old house for a few years now. They always do A+ work. We're currently in the middle of some home renovations and they've been willing and able to work with our erratic schedule. Honest, dependable, and great at what they do. Can't recommend them high enough!"

"I hired Ken Johnson (Johnson Electric) to correct a number of electrical problems which were identified in a pre-sale home inspection. Among these was a replacement of an unsafe old circuit panel, all new power outlets, conduits and receptacles. Ken provided a quote which was very reasonable. Actual work was performed by two technicians. They arrived on time, completed the job the same day, and left the site in pristine conditioner. We were very satisfied with their work and based on my experience I am happy to recommend Johnson Electric for quality electrical projects in your residence."

"The individuals at the Electric Zone were truly exceptional. I submitted my request to Angi's, and within the hour, they not only responded but actually arrived at my house, after their normal work hours, to complete the task. I can only give them my highest rating for not only their professionalism but also their kindness to me. CC, Altadena"

"I hired Mitch to run power from my electrical box to an outdoor solarium. It required digging to hide the wiring under my artificial turf, running it through the yard , then into the structure. Mitch did the job perfectly. The yard looked untouched, running the power into the structure was also perfect. He did the job in exactly the time he said he would. He’s the best electrician I’ve had since we moved into our house. Don’t hesitate to call him!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Northridge, you can safely replace light switches, outlets, and standard fixtures under 50 pounds by first shutting off power at the breaker and confirming with a voltage tester. Resetting GFCI outlets and changing bulbs are also safe tasks. For any work involving the main panel, new circuits, or outdoor electrical systems—especially near pools—contact a local professional to ensure safety.

Helpful?

Northridge’s hot, dry summers can strain electrical systems, making heat management and UV protection essential for outdoor wiring and panels. Intense sun exposure, winter rains, and occasional flooding can damage ground-level equipment. Santa Ana winds may introduce debris or moisture into outdoor boxes, while seismic activity requires extra bracing for panels. Scheduling major projects in spring or fall helps avoid weather-related complications.

Helpful?

In Northridge, homeowners often overlook the need for permits and inspections, especially when upgrading panels or adding pool equipment. Attempting DIY work on main service panels, skipping GFCI protection in kitchens and outdoor spaces, and using improper wire gauge for HVAC systems are frequent errors. Ignoring seismic bracing for electrical panels and failing to weatherproof outdoor components are also common missteps unique to the area.

Helpful?

In Northridge, overloading circuits during heatwaves, blocking airflow around electrical panels, and using extension cords for permanent outdoor lighting can all reduce system lifespan. Allowing sprinklers to spray electrical boxes, failing to clear debris after Santa Ana winds, and damaging buried lines during yard work are also frequent issues. Even hanging heavy décor without checking for hidden wiring can cause preventable damage.

Helpful?

The longevity of electrical work in Northridge hinges on using UV-resistant materials for outdoor installations, ensuring proper grounding, and selecting copper wiring for reliability. Planning for seismic stability, matching system capacity to the demands of pools and multiple air conditioning units, and protecting equipment from intense summer heat all play a crucial role in achieving safe, long-lasting results.
