"I was so impressed with Star Painting and Decoration Inc. Alvaro and his crew exhibited punctuality, professionalism, workmanship to a degree I haven’t seen in a painting company before. He painted my house using Sherwin Williams Paint . He explained the different qualities of paint. We chose Emerald Exterior by Sherwin Williams. That paint is the best on the market!! Alvaro addressed every detail we discussed in our first walk of my home. My home came out great!! I will be referring Alvaro to any one who needs to paint the exterior of their house!! 200 Percent Satisfaction Guaranteed!!!!"

"At first I was just looking for wallpaper for my bedroom and some fresh paint for the living room and kitchen. Nothing drastic, same colors but the old paint was already three years old and had some stains from daily use. The wallpaper I wanted was hard to find so Diego suggested a wall covering with wooden slats. They showed me some ideas and I also looked for inspiration. I had no idea something so simple could look this beautiful. In the end they handled everything, what started as a simple wallpaper replacement turned into a completely new bedroom. When they finished, it looked nothing like it did before. I was pleasantly surprised with expert home builders? work"

"Just finished our kitchen and bathroom remodel with Ocean Seven Builders and happy we went with them. Ron helped us through the whole process and made it simple. He was always available when we had questions and gave honest advice when we were choosing materials. The kitchen looks open and bright now, and the bathroom finally feels updated instead of old and cramped. Solid work and good people."

"Joshua is really thorough and professional.  He stuck to his start time and gave approximate end times that he delivered.  His quote was accurate.   He sent pictures, kept receipts and delivered what he said he would do.
We had two changes that needed to happen that required some added labor and materials, but Joshua was cool about it.  He even came on a saturday to do a final walk through.  Which I thought was very cool.
The pergola went up quickly and was what I drew.
The changes inside the house he did very clean and neat.  He had to cut back an archway and then replace some tile.
I have no hesitation recommending him or using him in the future.

Painting questions, answered by experts

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.

Maintain your wattle fence by inspecting it at least twice per year for loose weaving and degrading branches. Replace any seriously degraded sections, ensure water drains properly around the posts, and trim any sprouting branches if you used green wood. If you notice the weave loosening, you can often tighten it by gently pushing down on the top branches. You can also apply a natural wood preservative every two to three years to extend the fence's lifespan.

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.

There are several ways to make a wooden fence more visually appealing and keep it that way for years to come.

  • Treat the fence with a wood sealant to protect it against the elements. It’s recommended to reseal a fence every two to three years, but if you live in a harsh climate, you may want to do it more frequently than that.

  • Restore the fence if it’s old, corroding, or fading. That includes cleaning it and making small repairs where needed.

  • Paint the fence in a color that you like, whether that’s a simple white or more vibrant option. Fences usually need to be repainted every one to three years.

  • Decorate the fence with planters, string lights, birdhouses, mirrors, shutters, and more.
