"Steven Tinetti at Maverick Water Heaters & Plumbing is an expert in tankless water heaters. He looked at my particular situation with my water heater to find the best solution and gave me estimates for multiple solutions with a pro and con list for each. "The first visit lead to cleaning the area around the heater and burners and checking the thermocouple. Sadly that seemed to make it worse. Less than a week later No hot water for over 30 hours till the second technician replaced the thermocouple. All is perfect now. No charge for the second visit. The next step, if needed will be a tankless and their quote looks a bit steep. But I am really hoping I won’t need to go that far."

"Isaac and team were incredible in getting a bunch of updating old and out-of-code plumbing work done on our tricky 100-year-old house. They took time to really dig in and assess the right game plan to make sure not only that all the plumbing and vents were done properly, but that they looked great given some would still be exposed / visible under our porch. The team was communicative and courteous. Our new plumbing is working like a charm. The tankless heater and smart shutoff are cranking. And everything passed on first inspection. The inspector even commented how clean and detailed it all looked. Would recommend SplashFix for any project, big or small."

"I had used them before and was very pleased so when the sump pump we bought at a local hardware store and installed ourselves did not empty the water from our basement, I called them. They were the only company of the 5 I called who came out the same day and looked at my problem. We have finally had so much rain that it over ran our french drains and started coming into the basement. They came on a Friday and had to order a bigger pump. They returned today, Monday, and are installing it the right way which we did not do. the noise from the old pump was so bad our daughter could not sleep. I am very happy with their service and they are the first company I will call with any future plumbing needs."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

You have more options for water heaters than ever before. The best one for your home depends on your hot water usage and budget. Some of the more common types of water heaters are the conventional gas heater, a heat pump water heater, or a tankless heater for smaller homes or those with less water demands. Some uncommon types are solar and point-of-use systems. Some homes may have a combination of two units, such as a large heat pump heater and a backup point-of-use system.

Yes, you can convert a gas water heater to an electric one, but it is a complex process. You will need to ensure there is adequate power for the new electric unit, as they require more power than gas models. The project also involves safely closing off the gas lines and ventilation, and some cities may require a permit for the conversion. The cost can range from $1,500 to $4,100, depending on the installation scope, plumbing and electrical work, and the water heater model. For an accurate quote, it's best to contact a local professional. Also, be aware that your monthly utility bills may increase after the conversion, as natural gas is typically cheaper than electricity.

Electric water heaters do not need an attached vent, but the location of the water heater should allow for roughly 12 inches of clearance around it. This allows cool air to flow around the appliance and allows repair technicians to work on its components safely. The exact amount of clearance space required depends on your local building codes.

Typically, only a high-efficiency water heater with an inducer fan can be vented outside the house. Otherwise, your water heater needs to be installed on the inside and vented through the roof. However, certain areas may allow a standard-efficiency water heater to be vented outside. Check your local building codes to be sure.

Most hot water heater manufacturers recommend replacing the anode rod about once every three to five years. Anode rods sacrifice themselves by collecting iron, limestone, and other minerals that would otherwise corrode your hot water heater tank. This abuse wears them out long before your water heater does. Check the rod when you remove it and replace it if more than 50% of the metal has been consumed. Check the rod more frequently if you have hard water or use a water softener.
