"I did not use Elite Pool Service."

"I had Paramount come out to give me an estimate on refurbishing my empty swimming pool. It had been leaking water and we emptied it 2 years ago so it was time to either fix it or fill it in.

The estimator/sales guy came exactly on time, discussed the process and the issues he could see and emailed me an estimate later in the day. The only fly in the ointment for this part of the process is that I wrote back and asked him what kind of things typically drove up the price of this type of project (originally slated to be a re-tile and re-plaster job) and he didn't have any. I think he could have but more on that later.

The workers showed up exactly when scheduled and got right to work. They found that much of the plaster had lifted away from the gunnite and they really had to take it all down. They also found about 3 times as many structural cracks as estimated but that had been left open so that was okay. I was disappointed to be hit with the new charge of stripping the pool but Jorge cut me a really generous deal for the cost of the stripping and the extra cracks and I'm pretty sure I got the better end of the bargain. They also found that there were cracks in the corners of the pool and they applied extra rebar and concrete to those areas. They did not charge me more money for those repairs.

The job started on 7/20 and by 7/29 water was flowing into the pool again and it looks great. The crew did a good job of cleaning up and I'm quite pleased with the outcome. I recommend Paramount without hesitation."

"I contacted Bill via e-mail and he was very responsive. My project started with just painting three bedrooms, but when I mentioned I had old baseboards, he let me know that he can install those too. I had removed something from two of the bedroom walls that needed to be patched, and he did a great job covering the holes. Bill and his crew were professional and their paint job turned out great! "Horizon is great. Our sales guy was Craig, and we have enjoyed working with him. He came to measure the sunlight on the roof and talk to us about the systems, and the new tax credits available. He came back in a few days with several scenarios. We ended up choosing a bigger system that he recommended, because we expect to buy an electric car within two years. The first project was installing the 40 Sunpower 230 watt PV panels on our garage, along with two inverters (one for the 20 panels on the front, and other for the 20 panels on the back) and a solar monitoring system (remote display unit in the house and data uploaded to a web site that graphs our production). It took a few weeks and a little back and forth with San Mateo County, but the permit was approved and the system was installed over two days at the end of December, and the new Net Meter from PG&E installed at the beginning of January. The crew was friendly, professional, and efficient. The total cost of the system was $72,000 but would be eligible for a PG&E rebate of $12,000, so they only charged us for $60,000 and would get the rebate directly from PG&E. They also indicated that we would be eligible for an $18,000 tax credit on our 2009 taxes, bringing the cost to $42,000 after we see the tax credit in April 2010. The second project was to install solar water panels to heat the pool. We waited until the spring for this project, and had to remove a tree that was shading the roof where we wanted to place them. There was back and forth with the County again for the permit. (They are concerned about the structure of the roof and needed pictures for both jobs.) We ended up with 7 panels (4 feet x 12 feet each) because that was all that would fit. (We hope that with our cover keeping the heat in at night this will get our pool into the high 80s.) Here's how the systems are doing: In the winter our panels were producing about 15 kWh per day. In the summer about 55kWh per day. Our pool, only running the pump until 2pm has gotten the pool to 82 degrees, so we've extended the pump to 5pm to pick up a bit more heat. (It is a tradeoff when you have solar power because 1pm to 7pm is the most expensive for electricity.) You only pay for your electricity once a year after you switch to Solar Net Metering. In the winter we were buying electricity, in the summer we are selling more than we use. Hopefully we'll end up with a minimal bill at the end of a year. We were very happy with Horizon. They are great with communication via email and phone. Always happy to answer questions. The work looks great. When we had an issue with the monitoring system they were very prompt to respond. Horizon came to us highly recommended from a friend who used them."

"I never give a 100% review to any company because nothing and no one is ever perfect but in this case I would go so far as to give 97%. The end result was great and they made my pool look brand new. 100% kudos to the worker who gingerly cut away from the tiles I wanted to keep. His attention to detail was amazing and he did most of it on his belly, on the hottest day of the summer. In hindsight I feel guilty and should have just gutted the entire thing and chosen new tile. I apologize to them for my fool hearty choice. That said it was a job beautifully done. I decided to add a safety handle by the steps into the pool, since our friends are getting older and need something to hold onto while entering and exiting the pool. Completion of this took longer than hoped for, presumably due to unavailability, but once received and installed it was done well. The team worked well together and I think they did a reasonable job with daily clean up. Other than the safety bar installation, the job was completed in a timely fashion and the project manager, James, was a good and timely communicator, something very important in my opinion. We waited too long to address this resurfacing job and considering that we didn’t commit until late in the pool season, mid summer, we were pleased that the job was done relatively fast so we still got some swim time in. Looking forward to summer 2025 to reap the reward of the teams hard work. I would not hesitate to hire James and his team again. If you hire them I hope you have the same good experience."
