"Absolutely wonderful company and highly recommend Ray and his technician(s) to anyone that is seeking locksmith services. Ray is super nice, easy going, upfront regarding fees, which I appreciated. Scheduled an appointment, Ray called and advised me that the technician was running late on another project. Once Jordan arrived, he was extremely pleasant, clean, professional and had the project completed quickly. The total bill was exactly what was quoted. Very honest company owner. Again, cannot recommend NorCal Locksmith enough and will use them again in the future."

"It was a pleasure to work with Manuel. He was very responsive, courteous, and open to working with our ideas. We love the work that he did for us and we would hire him again. In comparison to other contractors/handymen, his prices are a little higher but "you get what you pay for". very happy with the end product"

"I called Alarm Protection Group AFTER my office was burglarized. Now I feel SAFE. William is great to work with. He's neat and tidy, prompt, presentable - not a butt-crack type of guy, and he doesn't leave a mess in his wake. He's also knowledgeable about the equipment and only uses high-quality products."

"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"Michael Ridgeway was wonderful to work with because he listened to how I wanted the gate to be finished so it would be structurally strong. I would hire him again without any question. Michaels helper that worked along with him worked very hard. I really appreciate their work ethics. Thank you so much Michael and Tommy! Sherie"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Aside from the labor costs, several other factors can impact the cost of hiring a locksmith. If you can avoid services during off-hours, you can save on fees often charged for urgent requests. Consider additional factors such as:

  • Type of services required

  • Emergency call fees

  • Home and lock location

  • Number of locks to repair or install

  • Peak hours

  • Type of locks

Yes, you should change the locks as soon as you can after completing the purchase of a house. This is a matter of privacy and security, as you have no idea how many copies of the keys the previous owner made. You can change the locks yourself or hire a pro to replace or rekey the lock, which costs $50 to $100.

Rekeying is typically cheaper than replacing locks. Professional rekeying costs between $40 and $160, sometimes with an additional fee of $15 to $40 per lock. A locksmith's hourly rate averages around $75. If you do it yourself, a rekeying kit can cost as little as $10. In contrast, replacing a lock costs between $130 and $500, with an average of around $315, depending on the hardware and lock type. Rekeying is a simpler process that changes the key for your existing lock without replacing the hardware. It is a good option if you have a quality lock that works well, you've recently moved, you've lost a key, or you need a quick security upgrade. The best choice depends on the condition of your current locks.

In general, keyless door locks are considered safe, and their security depends on the type and quality of the lock. They cannot be picked like a traditional lock and often include added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, which can make them more secure. However, they are not without risks. Potential vulnerabilities include hacking for Wi-Fi-connected models, battery failure, power outages, and technical malfunctions. To maximize security, it is important to choose a reliable brand, stay on top of software updates, and perform regular maintenance. While the risks are different, keyless locks are not considered more dangerous than traditional locks.

Keyless locks are great for convenience, letting you unlock doors with a code or your phone so you don't need to carry keys around. They also often come with helpful features like temporary codes for guests. On the downside, they can be more costly up front and do require batteries that will eventually need replacing. If you value ease of use and additional security features, keyless locks are worth the investment.
