"I wanted to get a security system but had no clue where to start. I went ahead and used Angie's List as a reference. We’re happy with our experience dealing with Alarm Protection Group. Bought their starter package that covers our doors, windows, 3 motion detectors, and a sleek control panel."

"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"Joshua did an outstanding job!! He was professional and informative about his work. He explain the errors the other locksmiths I had in the past. He even fixed all of my companies keys to the back door. We also called him directly back a second time for our front door. Someone tried breaking in and they broke the lock. He came out right away a fixed it without an appointment. Now that’s great service if you asked me. I would highly recommend this company to anyone business or residential. "I hired GM locksmith and they came 1 hour late, but message was left by the locksmith that he would be a little late. As stated, $15 to $35 for a lock change. Note each door lock was re-keyed times two, but when he came I had three different phone numbers for him. GM 916-577-2700 and AGD Locksmith was on the van he drove 916-999-1826 and on the business card provided, Sacramento Locksmith 916-550-9811. His ad on Home Advisor stated his agreement would terminate 7-31-18. So all of this different information was concerning, confusing and slightly alarming. To let a stranger re-key your entire house and I was charged more than expected. However, the work was good and completed within one hour. Despite two lengthy long phone calls it took, along with a cigarette break - don't get me wrong the work was solid and done at least on the day planned and urgent as it was one or two days notice."

"FrontPoint is fantastic and so easy to work with. They'll patiently walk you through every step of home install. I was able to get smart locks, a visual doorbell, and additional sensors for MUCH less than it would have cost to order the locks alone. Reasonable monthly monitoring fees as well. I would highly recommend! Just be sure to order what you need at the beginning, as the discounts are much better at that time."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

The benefit of deadbolt locks is that they're much harder to force open than simple locks with pin tumbler mechanisms, so they may offer added security. This feature is why many locksmiths recommend deadbolts for home security. For many households, this added protection and peace of mind is well worth the cost of installing a deadbolt.

Over time, latch components may wear out or get grimy, leading to this problem. First, check for dirt, dust, or debris in the latch mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Use an aerosol duster and lubricant to clean and loosen. You may also need to tighten the screws in the component, adjust the strike plate, or replace the lock. If none of these steps resolve the problem, consult a professional locksmith.

Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey.

Smart deadbolts are a worthwhile investment for homeowners seeking more convenience, flexibility, and advanced features than a traditional deadbolt can provide. While a strong conventional deadbolt offers sufficient security for most, smart deadbolts provide significant upgrades.

Key benefits include keyless entry via smartphone, keypads, or biometric sensors, and the ability to lock or unlock your door remotely. You can also manage access for guests by creating temporary codes, eliminating the need for physical keys and the risk of them being lost or duplicated. Many models integrate with smart home systems and offer features like automatic locking, entry-exit monitoring, and tamper alerts with encryption for enhanced security.

However, there are downsides to consider. Smart deadbolts are more expensive than their traditional counterparts and rely on batteries and wireless networks to function. This dependency introduces potential vulnerabilities, such as hacking by skilled intruders and privacy concerns. Installation can also be more complex. Despite these drawbacks, the added layer of convenience and protection makes them a compelling option for many.

Keyless locks are great for convenience, letting you unlock doors with a code or your phone so you don't need to carry keys around. They also often come with helpful features like temporary codes for guests. On the downside, they can be more costly up front and do require batteries that will eventually need replacing. If you value ease of use and additional security features, keyless locks are worth the investment.
