"They did an amazing job on the carpets! The quote I received was much less than the other I got but the work was still amazing. They were super fast and didn’t leave a mess! In the past when getting the carpets cleaned i had some companies leave a mess in the bathroom after draining and it was a pain to clean up. They put fans on which helped with the drying process. I was able to move all my furniture back later that night. They even helped with moving my bed so my room could be cleaned completely. Will definitely be hiring them again!"

"Jose did a superb job! Another company succeeded initially in removing the bright red stain - but as their treatment finished drying the next day, a greenish/bluish color came up. They came back, worked for a couple hours, basically flooding the carpet to "wash" out the stain. All the wetness took out the color initially, but as it dried it brought up the greenish/bluish color again from the pad underneath, and a light pinkish tint from the original lipstick stain returned. They used no fan, so it took 2-3 days to dry, causing mold. Jose had to deal with the botched work, and the mold, and did an incredible job: completely removed the mold and restored the carpet to its natural state, and got out about 95% of the color (which may still fade more). Would highly recommended Jose, without question!! He is clearly an expert."

Small jobs welcome

"I thought our 24+-year-old engineered whitewashed oak kitchen floor was finally done for, with water damage, scratches, and deep gouges abounding. Was prepared to cover it over with vinyl plank but at the last minute decided to get bids from two-floor refinishers. Glad I did - it was a great learning experience. Both bidders were professional, had good references, and were optimistic about the possibility of a good result from refinishing the floor. One of the bidders proposed a price that was twice as high as I expected, based on surveys of similar jobs in my zip code; the other - Hilltop Hardwood Flooring - proposed a price close to my expectation, and became the instant winner. Because this was a relatively small job (135 square feet) Ryan, the owner, did all the work himself, completing on time in 2-1/2 days - and what a fantastic job he did! All the blemishes were sanded away leaving a perfectly flat, undamaged wood surface revealing the splendid red oak grain that looked ten times more beautiful than when the floor was new. I can recommend Hilltop without reservation and will definitely invite them to bid on the future flooring renovations we are planning."

Floor Polishers questions, answered by experts

Each flooring material has its own maintenance requirements and cleaning techniques. For example, hardwood floors may require occasional refinishing and specialized cleaning products, while vinyl and laminate are easy to clean with regular sweeping and mopping. Concrete and natural stone, on the other hand, may need periodic sealing to maintain their appearance and durability. Follow manufacturer recommendations and utilize appropriate cleaning methods to preserve the integrity of your chosen flooring material.

Yes, you can polish an existing concrete floor—as long as the slab is structurally sound and in good shape. In fact, that’s what makes this type of flooring upgrade so appealing. Polishing works best on bare concrete with minimal surface damage, although you can usually repair cracks and stains before the grinding and buffing begins. Instead of ripping out your existing concrete floor, polishing it can turn it into a high-shine showpiece that’s both practical and sleek.

After carpet removal, prepare for new flooring by assessing the subfloor. You will want to address any imperfections to create a smooth and level base for installation. Remember, proper subfloor preparation is crucial for optimal new flooring results. Consider repairing and replacing damaged areas for a stable foundation. For both wood and concrete subfloors, consider sanding to remove any debris or adhesives remaining thoroughly.

The best solution for mopping floors depends on the type of floor you have, but a good all-around or multi-purpose DIY floor cleaner is 2 cups of warm water, 5 to 10 drops of liquid dish soap, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. This is safe to use on tile, laminate, wood, polished concrete, vinyl, and more, as it’s relatively neutral and lacks caustic and abrasive chemicals that could be harmful to children and pets. You can also use a multi-purpose commercial cleaner, but make sure to follow the directions for safety.

Dust mops are the best option for tackling dirt and dust on marble floors. Vacuums aren’t a good idea as the brushes and beater rolls can scratch and damage your marble floors. If you must use a vacuum, make sure your vacuum has a setting for hard floors, and take care not to apply too much pressure when rolling the vacuum across your marble floor.
