Customers say: Quick response

"I reached out to Monterey Vista Termite Control to get an estimate on fumigation, and though I reached out on a Saturday over a holiday weekend, Andy got back to me immediately on that same day, answered all our questions, and immediately provided us with an estimate that was lower than the other estimate we had received. Andy was professional, quick to respond, and clearly knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Andy and this company, and we will definitely reach out again the next time we need any pest related services!"

"We're in the middle of closing on a condo, and we know there is some termite damage from a prior infestation-- we heard the condo association tented the complex 2 years ago. A prior potential buyer had another company do a termite report on the house--- that report indicated termites. But we were unsure of how much of the termite damage is new vs. old, so I called to schedule a free termite inspection. Their receptionist, Mary, asked me to describe what evidence of termites we've seen and after some discussion advised me to hold off on the inspection for now. She explained that tenting is usually pretty effective. She said to call back as soon as we see any signs of new damage (droppings/etc). She seemed trustworthy and very willing to help. Money being tight, I think Mary's advice has helped me reformulate my approach. We were going to repair the deck anyways (this is where most of the damage is visible) so when we do that we'll look for new termite damage. If we see anything suspicious, then we'll call Mary (and Mark) at Bay Area Termite Co.!"

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

Squirrels are pretty skittish creatures, and they dread the presence of rodent-chasing dogs and cats. Sudden noises and bursts of activity can send them scampering away. Anything with an element of surprise, like motion-detecting lighting, strobe lights, and noisy wind chimes, can unsettle them. Even loud radios and voices can be perceived as threatening and terrifying to these furry critters.

When it comes to keeping birds from doing their business on your porch rails, you have several DIY options and home remedies you can try:

  • Tie a fishing line from one end of the deck post to the other. Birds won’t be able to see the line across the railing, so they can’t land on it.

  • Hang wind chimes close by, which may scare birds away.

  • Apply a bird gel repellent to the railings, which contains smells that birds generally don’t like. Or, similarly, you can apply citronella or lemon oil around the railings, since birds don’t like strong smells.

Boric acid is among the harsher chemicals you can use in your home, and it poses risks whether ingested, inhaled, or touched. Kids and pets alike tend to put their hands and mouths on anything within reach, so it’s always a good idea to store boric acid in a spot they can’t get to and use it only when they’re not around for an extended period. When you use it, ensure they’re out of the house and fully clean up any trace of boric acid when you’re done because even a small amount can cause problems.

Whether dryer sheets can keep squirrels away is a bit of a mystery because the evidence is entirely anecdotal. Many households claim to have success with using dryer sheets for keeping squirrels away by placing them throughout their attics, yards, on a clothesline, and any other area where squirrels like to run through. Squirrels do not like strong scents, so if you try using dryer sheets, the ones with the strongest scent may be the most effective.

Yes, you can get rid of wolves naturally using nonlethal deterrents, like motion-activated lighting or loud music. You can also get rid of wolves with the same methods that apply to keeping other wildlife away—strong and tall fencing, a guard dog, and a clean property free from potential food sources.
