"I hired Gregory to paint the exterior of my house, pour concrete, make a paver patio and install slate on front porch and back step. He did a good job on all. He is a nice person who works very hard. Shares his knowledge to help you make good decisions about your project. Highly recommend."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Evan (Halls Concrete) is punctual, affable, detail-oriented, efficient, and as a Subject Matter Expert; Evan has extremely talented skills. Evan gave me a very reasonable job bid, to lay my gravel driveway, and pour my 25 foot long x 15 foot wide x 4 inches thick storage shed concrete foundation. Evan explained every phase, and detail, of the projects' time-lines. I asked many questions. Evan answered my questions completely, which assured me my gravel driveway, and concrete foundation pour projects were being trusted to the right contractor. Evan emphasized that "No job is too small". He treated my backyard projects with professional passion, ingenuity, precision, and skill. A great looking gravel driveway, and concrete foundation, are the result produced by Halls Concrete."

"C & H Gardens Artistic Landscape & Tree Service did a fantastic job in my backyard. They worked within my budget. My planting beds were cleaned out, weed barrier installed and new succulents planted. They worked with me on design and planting. They also re-installed stairs to allow access into my canyon lot. Finally they installed a retaining wall to support my mature sycamore tree that is on a slope and also terraced above the tree on the slope. The workmen were efficient and friendly. I would definitely recommend this business for your landscaping needs.1"

"I needed a cement contractor to pour and finish the concrete on a zig-zag design wheelchair ramp. I had already done the excavation and built the adjacent block walls. Mike's team were doing a much bigger job on a house down the street, so I asked if they could fit in my small 2-day job. They gave me a fair estimate, showed up on the days agreed, understood what I wanted done, and did an excellent job with no delays or problems. I recommend them."

"Our project included landscaping, as well as concrete work, and it was a huge job. Owner Kris had a tall order to communicate with his skilled workers every step of the way and he was able to inform them of all that needed to be done and when to do it. On many days Quetzal was on site at 6:30 a.m., not leaving from here for nearly 12 more hours”even though we were all suffering through a month-long heat spell. Our yard and new driveway look terrific!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Clean regularly, check for cracks, and inspect the chimney annually for safety.

Mortar is a mixture of sand and cement that binds materials, such as bricks, stones, and concrete blocks, together. Think of it as the glue that fills in the gaps between bricks and stones, then seals them in place to prevent damage or deterioration. Mortar also helps spread the load across a wall or structure, keeping cracks and shifting at bay.

To stain brick, you should use a product specifically formulated for brick, concrete, or other masonry surfaces. These stains are designed to penetrate the porous surface of the brick and bond with it. This is different from paint, which sits on the surface and is prone to peeling, flaking, and trapping moisture that can cause damage. Water-based brick stains are often recommended because they are easy to apply, even for DIYers, and they allow the brick to breathe. Avoid using regular paint on brick, as it will not adhere properly and can lead to future maintenance problems.

While painting can certainly change the look of a chimney, you should think twice about giving your brick chimney the old landlord special.

Painting brick is porous, meaning it’s full of tiny holes that can soak up moisture. Those holes also allow it to dry, though. So, when you paint it, you trap any moisture inside, providing an opportunity for mold, mildew, and water damage.

Paint also shows wear faster than naked brick. This means that once you paint a brick surface, you’ll have to keep painting it to maintain a clean look. A paint job is also harder to undo on brick because of its porous nature. Once you paint it, it’s hard to go back without some serious power washing—another added cost.

A chimney cleaning brick or log can help loosen creosote between professional chimney cleaning appointments. Although they can help keep your chimney cleaner, they are not a substitute for chimney sweeping and are not meant to be used regularly.
