"My HVAC unit stopped producing heat so I called the folks at around the clock. They offered to come out the same day and after taking a look up on our roof determined it was a faulty control board. We talked a little about the lifespan of the unit and that while it was probably going to need to be replaced in the next 5 years or so, it made more sense to simply replace the board today. So he scheduled an appointment for the following day to come back with the replacement board. 1 day later and 15 minutes of work and I have heat again."

Not if you have a standard unit. Because portable AC units actually work to dehumidify the room, you’ll likely need to drain the unit from time to time—but you won’t have to put water into it. While 72 degrees is a comfortable setting for many people, it’s likely not the most efficient temperature setting for your air conditioning unit. By pushing the temperature up to 75 or 78 degrees, you stand to save money on your energy bill. That said, these temperatures may be too warm to be comfortable for some people and are definitely too warm for most people to sleep comfortably.

There are several tell-tale signs that your AC coils need cleaning, including:

  • You’re getting higher electricity bills.

  • Your home doesn’t feel as cool as it usually does.
