"Purl's Sheet Metal's installers were very profressional and kept our home clean during the replacement process.   We purchased a  wi-fi thermostat and the installers helped us get everything hooked up and we can even access it remotely by our cell phones.    Overall we are totally pleased with our units and the whole process.

"It went very well. Ray listened carefully to the problems we had with our current system. He looked over everything we had in place and made suggestions to help with the overall system, including putting in an additional return. He really took time to make the system optimal for our home and floor plan. He even satisfied the million questions my husband (a mechanical engineer) had. They are also qualified to apply for PG&E rebates through the Home Energy Upgrade program. We haven't finished that part yet, but will be getting money back for the furnace, AC and ductwork he installed. Kaitlyn in their office is also very pleasant and thorough. We would highly recommend Controlled Climates, and have already done so to one of our neighbors!"

"We recently had Mega Power Electric Inc install a solar system and panels. The President and provided excellent communication all the way through the process. He even met with us after installation to explain the almost incomprehensible PG&E bill. Although not the least expensive bid, his was competitive and I felt he was as interested in educating me about solar and the various types of panels and inverter systems as he was in selling a system. He demonstrated how the array of panels would meet our energy needs and as opposed to some of the other companies, wasn't selling us more than we needed. We are very satisfied with our solar system and I highly recommended Mega Power Electric Inc."

"It was well done. Sal and his crew are very professional and polite. If you have an old smoke alarm system (10 years old), you have to replace them all, the city inspector will come and check them before they approve the install. If your smoke alarm has a three prong that attaches to the ceiling via wire, you have to get the exact same type of smoke alarm. I did the opposite and causes some delay in the approval process. It was my fault, I bought the non wired battery operated smoke alarm. A+"

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.

One of the easiest ways to determine which type of furnace will work best for your home is to contact a professional in your area. Many HVAC companies offer free consultations to help potential customers determine if they need a new system and which type would work best for their home and the community’s climate.

Common problems include leaks, low pressure, and inefficient heating. Regular maintenance prevents many issues.

The best way to compare HVAC quotes is getting a few detailed quotes from local companies with good reputations. Then, go over the quotes line by line. Protect yourself by insisting on in-person estimates that include equipment manufacturer names, model numbers, SEER ratings, amounts and numbers of materials, details of warranties on equipment and labor, and other specifics.

Knowing the exact equipment and materials is the only way that you can fairly compare quotes. Quotes that are much lower than others can be a sign that the company isn’t providing the best quality service or materials.

Yes, government incentives and programs are available to encourage energy-efficient upgrades in many regions. These incentives may include tax credits, rebates, grants, and low-interest loans for homeowners who invest in energy-efficient improvements such as HVAC system upgrades, insulation, and efficient windows. The availability and specific details of these incentives can vary by location, so check with your local government or utility company to explore your options.
