At first, we met with Ron that came over and met with us about the issues that we had with our water heater and with the bills that we currently pay for electric. He got the machine working again by installing a new hard drive and adding more memory for increased performance. Just a couple of weeks later, the computer again was having problems. This time, Jim dianosed the culprit as being the machine's original memory. While I decided not to remove and not replace the faulty memory for the time being due to cost, Jim upgraded my operating system to enhance the overall system performance. "Two men arrived from the company, and one got right to work setting up equipment and noting where things were in the house while the other explained what they were going to do.  They seemed thorough and knowledgable and did call me out to watch as the dryer vent was cleaned - a decent amount of lint, etc. was pulled out.
After seeing our furnace, the salesman-type guy doing the explaining suggested it be taken apart and cleaned as that had probably never been done (our home is 13 years old, and we just bought it this summer).  He showed me that parts of the furnace had a thin layer of dust, and quoted a price for them to take care of cleaning it that day.  We agreed to have them go ahead, then in the mean time did some research online and made some calls and felt the price we were quoted was high.  The salesman took about $100 off after the lower quotes were mentioned, but the whole thing felt kind of slick.  He showed me the furnace after the service was done, and it was cleaner.  I'm just not sure it was necessary or worth the additional $700+ we paid.  In hindsight, I shoud have stuck with the Big Deal services and done some research on the furnace cleaning before commiting.

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."
