"They were able to clean some of the ducts, but explained some ducts needed completely replaced due to the mice. Replacement was not a service they did, but they did supply the name of a company to contact for replacement. They were very honest, only charged for the services they provided. I would recommend them again and will use them again myself."

Small jobs welcome

"I just needed a routine cleaning of my dryer vent on the roof. I did not contemplate getting my chimney inspected but I asked them to do it for an extra $99. The two workers were able to come early, which was great and they got right to it. Riley upsold me on some additional services, but I declined. Overall surprisingly good service."

Small jobs welcome

"I had an amazing experience with Attic Shield. From the first phone call to the final walkthrough, the team was incredibly professional, punctual and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain everything clearly, provided a fair and transparent estimate, and delivered exactly what they promised. I was impressed with the crew as they arrived on time, worked efficiently, and left the workplace spotless. They removed the old insulation, sanitized the attic, sealed up air leaks, and installed insulation that made an immediate difference in our home?s comfort and energy bills, especially during these warmer days. You can tell they truly care about the quality of their work and the satisfaction of their customers. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking to improve their home?s insulation. You won?t be disappointed!"

Air Duct Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You do need dampers in your HVAC system, but they do help to regulate airflow and give you better control of the temperature in each room of your home. Most HVAC systems will have dampers installed, but this isn't always the case. If you don’t have designated zones in your home, you’ll likely still have valve control dampers on your supply vents for manual control.

Yes, dirty air ducts can make your house smell. If you have mold growing in your ducts, you might notice a musty odor (similar to rotting leaves) coming through your vents when you run your AC. Rodent infestations might smell like ammonia, while an insect problem could create a musty or oily scent.

The best location for return air vents is strategic to ensure balanced airflow and temperature control. In most homes, placing them in central, open areas like hallways or large living spaces is most effective. Ideally, they should be located across from a supply vent. Climate is also a factor: in warm climates, place vents high on the walls to help remove rising hot air, while in colder climates, lower placement is better. It's also important to ensure that vents placed low on walls are not blocked by furniture. The optimal placement ultimately depends on your HVAC system's design, your home's specific heating and cooling needs, and the accessibility of the ductwork.

The most common type of ducts are flexible ducts and sheet metal ducts. Flexible ducts can be insulated or non-insulated, and work well in tight spaces. They’re also lightweight and easy to install. Sheet metal ducts are popular for their durability and longevity. Other less-common types of ducts are fiberglass and fiberboard.

Seeing black dots around the air vents is alarming, but don’t worry. It’s probably just a build-up of soot and darkened dust. Soot is just a byproduct of burning organic materials, so it tends to form in the winter months.
