Small jobs welcome

"These two are great! Their work is really, really good and they are both professional and yet friendly. My wife and I loved the final product and are extremely grateful to them for all they did. Easily recommended! If you have a tile job and want it done right for a very reasonable price, call them, you will not regret it."

Small jobs welcome

"Our fifty year old basic beige tile countertop was cracked and looked terrible. But to replace the entire kitchen's tile work with Formica or granite would have been extremely expensive and would have looked weird with our older wood cabinets. We thought maybe by getting some Mexican tile laid in to the damaged area and a new stainless steel sink, we could save some money and retain the old house charm. Daniel was extremely careful and worked with us through some very tricky installation issues. The results were wonderful! So colorful and tasteful! It turned out better than we had hoped! Now, instead of a repair job that hid broken tile in our kitchen, the sink has become one of the favorite places in the house! Well done, Daniel!!!"

"Project: Buildout/Convert interior, hall closet, to accommodate stacked washer/dryer unit. Requirements: remove 220 electrical from garage and install to closet buildout, install all required plumbing and venting. The main reason I chose UIC, Luis provided me a detailed estimate of the project, they arrived on time every day, and at the day, the area was clean. All UIC, team members were professional, knowledgeable, considerate of my property and pleasant to work with. Luis kept me informed throughout the process, including communications with Inspectors. Due to my husband's health it was necessary to "minimizing dust during the construction". Each day throughout the construction UIC, took every precaution and mitigated dust, as much as possible. I was extremely satisfied with the outcome of the closet buildout. The closet that was once a "catch-all", for all things "junk", it is now a Laundry/Storage/Pantry. And, based on Luis' suggestion, installed a functioning sink in the garage, with hot and cold running water. The value of the service UIC provided is priceless."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

If you’re looking for a durable tile for a shower floor, consider porcelain, stone, or vinyl tiles. Each of these options, when installed correctly, will stand up well to everything from water and moisture to the impact from a dropped bottle of body wash. These materials are also easy to clean and maintain, making them popular options for shower floors.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Granite countertops cost an average of $3,250 compared to $2,250 for tile countertops. Granite is also harder to DIY than tile, given its weight and bulk, which increases the overall labor cost of installation. Over time, both types of countertops may need sealing to remain resistant to water, heat, and other common kitchen elements.

The underlayment determines a ceramic tile’s sturdiness, and a cement board or backer board works best. Be sure to tape the joints when using these materials, and consider laying it on top of a layer of thin-set for more stability.
