"Nick Sinclair handled my project. He was really great. I had no clue that you had to have a permit in order to install a furnace or water heater. An inspector came out and told me that I would need a permit. They had to drive from Orange County to Riverside County in order to get the permits. These guys stopped everything, drove out there and took care of all the permits. They installed everything promptly and it was just the perfect job. Their prices are fantastic."

"I needed an oil change done on my Mercedes. Dave the owner made sure he had all the right spec fluids for my car when I go there. Connie the friendly receptionist was friendl and efficient.. I was in and out quick all fluids topped off, and potential problems brought to my attention, no sales pitch just good old fashioned honest people. We'll do business with them again. Highly Recommended

"After calling several companies in regards to tankless water heaters, we set an appointment with Kevin who was professional and knowledgable about these energy efficient water heaters.  We decided to go with Baltica because of their "can do" attitude.  They knew what was possible and what was not, even providing us with several options on where to place the water heaters and what else we could do with our piping.  Since we bought a multi-unit building that was built in the 1930s, they were very helpful in suggesting replacing certain pipes and fixtures.  Even while they were relocating pipes, they noticed an unused space behind the wall and suggested that we build a storage room.  We have since built the room and have increase our square footage and storage space (thanks Val!!). After work was completed, they were always very responsive to our request of documentation to submit for our tankless water heater rebates.  Kevin, Val, & Marius were all awesome to work with.  We would highly recommend them for all your plumbing needs, especially if you are interested in a tankless water heater.

"Robert was absolutely exceptional in every way! I called Southland Heating and Air Conditioning to get an estimate for a new HVAC system (my system is about 15 years old) and Robert not only provided a detailed explanation of the best way to upgrade, but he also spotted a problem with the wiring on my Nest Thermostat. A true professional! Highly recommended all around!! I will definitely be a repeat customer!"

"On Thu, Aug 4, 2016, my 13-year-old Rheem, builder's grade HVAC system stopped working. Since I had experienced good service with Home Comfort (formerly American Comfort) over the last several years (Home Comfort did not sell me my old system; I purchased it from an independent contractor), I called to schedule an appointment regarding different options Home Comfort could offer me. On Sat, Aug 6, I selected an upgraded, high-end, Lennox resort-grade system and emphasized that I wanted an auto-switch thermostat that I had been used to on my previous system (automatically switches between AC and heat as needed). The installation was performed Mon, Aug 8, and took approximately 8.5 hours. When I asked the installers if I had an auto thermostat for the new system, they said yes. They removed the old system, insulated the walls of the furnace closet, and installed and rewired the new system. It all looked wonderful, quickly passed city inspection, worked very quietly, and cooled efficiently. Three months later, on Fri, Nov 18, when temperatures began dropping at night--and the day before I was leaving for a 2-week vacation out of state--I realized that I had a manual thermostat and had to adjust the thermostat to heat. Unfortunately, I also discovered that the heat wasn't working. I double-checked the thermostat and the Lennox manuals to ensure I hadn't overlooked any steps. On Sat, Nov 19, I called for service, but due to short-handed availability of technicians (Customer Service (CS) representative said a couple of technicians had called in sick), they couldn't send anyone until Monday. I was concerned because I had family members (adult and child) in the house while I was gone on vacation. Since I would be on vacation on the day of service, I arranged for someone to be at the house during the window of time provided by the CS representative (2-4 pm because CS rep told me that the technician did not have a heavy schedule that afternoon). On Monday afternoon, the person waiting at my home texted me at 4:15 pm and said no technician had showed up, and I asked that person to call the CS phone number I texted. He did and informed me that the new ETA was 5 pm and that the CS rep told him that the standard service window of time was 1 pm-5 pm. Five pm came and went, and the new ETA from CS was 6 pm. The person canceled the service because he had to leave. My adult family member at home told me when I called to wait to schedule service until I came back from vacation because it was too stressful and unreliable to schedule service. While on vacation, I purchased an auto thermostat at Costco that was the same brand (Honeywell) as the one that Home Comfort installed (I didn't want to fight the issue about an auto thermostat and just wanted it done). My family members used the fireplace and blankets to keep warm at night. I called CS several days (Wednesday) before I returned from vacation (Saturday) to ensure a technician would come first thing Monday morning, Dec 5, and to let them know that I also wanted the technician to replace the thermostat with the one I purchased. The CS rep provided a window of time between 8-10 am. On Dec 5, about 9:30 am, a CS rep called me to let me know that the technician would be there closer to 10 am. He showed up about 10:30 am. It took him about two hours to check everything, rewire the system (it had been mis-wired), and test everything (both heat and cooling). He also had to call the Honeywell CS (15 minutes on Hold) to walk him through the system programming because the technician said it didn't go according to instructions in the manual. Happily, Home Comfort did not charge me a dime for service because it was included under the warranty. The cost in this review was the amount I paid in August for the system."

"We had 2 jobs done by Iwai. First, they did the central air for our 3 bedroom house in LA. Many of the other companies said we needed to put in additional vents but Iwai suggested putting the system in and adding the vents later if we were not satisfied with the air flow. This ended up saving us thousands. the second jod was a mini-split HVAC for our garage conversion. our general contractor gave us a ridiculous price so we called our friends at Iwai for a second opinion and they were great. The price was low and when the inspector gave us a hard time about silly details Brandon sent his team out multiple times to deal with it even though it was a relatively small job for them. Both times the work was high quality, the price was great and the professionalism was above reproach. I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

The most important sign of a boiler problem is something happening unexpectedly, which is why regular boiler maintenance is important. Unexpected problems can include strange smells, new leaks, and unexpected noises that your boiler wasn’t making before. Additionally, if a boiler keeps shutting off or can’t maintain a specific temperature range, it’s time to call in an expert.

There are several types of home radiators, and the most common are steam heat radiators, electric radiators, and dual-fuel radiators. Steam heat radiators are connected to a boiler. Electric radiators can operate without being connected to anything else—they just need an electrical outlet. If you have a dual-fuel radiator, you’ll see a valve at the bottom of the system with a wire coming out of it and going into a wall. These are often your towel radiators in the bathroom. The type of radiator you have will impact how you turn it on.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

Probably not. Moving a boiler to a new location is a very different prospect from replacing it in the same spot, and significantly more expensive. Plus, boilers are typically carefully positioned in proximity to pipes and radiators when installed. Homeowners may want to move boilers to free up space, prevent freezing problems that have happened in winter, or solve a noise issue—but it’s a much more costly proposition.

To figure out if your boiler is worth repairing or if you need to replace your boiler, first figure out how old the unit is. Boilers last 15 to 20 years, so if your unit is 15 years old or older, it may be better to replace the entire thing depending on the severity of the problems. If it’s not quite that old, then it’s probably worth repairing. Another thing to consider is whether your warranty covers any of the repair costs. If so, it may be worthwhile to repair your boiler to keep it running.
