"I recently purchased my first home with issues. TME Construction was hired to repair leaking windows and a cinder block wall. Tony and his crew arrived 30 minutes early and started working immediately. They checked to see if the windows were installed correctly and they were. Then all the windows were sealed. My wonderful dog knocked over a cinder block off the top of a block wall fence (low fence big dog). They repaired the block wall and today you would never know it ever happened. Tony made sure that my wonderful dog could never knock down the cinder block again! My side gate was broken and Tony fixed it for me which was not included in my service request nor did I ask. That was awesome! Tony and his crew went above and beyond and I am so fortunate that I found his company! I highly recommend TME Construction. The cost was responsible and I know I will use their services in the future. Thank you Tony!! Veronica"

"Nathan impressed from the time I first met him. He was far more professional than other contractors in terms of describing how his company works and what I should expect if I worked with him. He also has a nice showroom where you can look a variety of cabinets in different styles and colors as well as countertops. We ended up getting a countertop that he suggested. We would never had picked it on our own but it ended up looking amazing in our kitchen. We had him do a complete remodel of our kitchen and one of our bathrooms. The guys on his crew were always prompt and showed up as scheduled. His foreman was both a good communicator and listener. Whenever we ran into an unexpected issue, they communicated clearly what additional costs would be involved (if any) and how much additional time it might take. The cabinets he installed were custom made but did not cost more than the pre-fab ones you can buy at the large home improvement stores. They are of high quality and well constructed. I actually saw his cabinet guy using a small caliper to make sure the door distances from the cabinets were all even! Lastly...here's something you'll never hear about a contractor...he finished AHEAD of time! Nathan's company are straight shooters and very skilled craftsmen. I would work with them again."

"I was totally wrong in thinking that this company would do a good job because in reality they did something spectacular, the entire work team was very kind and attentive to our family, we are a family that does not open the door to anyone but we decided to trust American Professional Builders, Jose was very friendly and understanding with all of our needs, he always tried to adapt the work to each one's style, my children's rooms are comfortable, elegant and at the same time they can play and have fun with the design that Jose created especially for them, our yards are safe for the children and at the same time we can enjoy a weekend with the wonderful Deck with fireplace and kitchen, the pool with games that Jose recommended and that he built is beautiful and fun for the family, the type of tile he used looks luxurious and the pavers he installed with the artificial grass around it were exactly what we dreamed of, we are going to build an ADU soon and we are already working on the pl"

"We hired McCormick Home Builders to remodel our living room, and we are beyond pleased with the result. The team was professional, worked efficiently, and Aris design ideas made a huge difference. "My encounter with Don Norwood and Charter Construction Inc has been one of the best things that I have had happen in the last few years. Now the rest of the story: Several years ago we had new windows installed on the second story of our family home. That and the installation of a cellar sump pump, pushed the El Ninneo two years. In 2017 about February, Los Angeles received substantial rain. Three of the windows with curved tops, allowed rain water to leak into the wall and destroy part the ceiling in our living room. The unnamed window company sent out people to inspect their installation, and I showed the the six inch long by sixteenth inch wide gaps in the three windows. They said that wasn't the problem, but ordered new arch pieces, installed them and eliminated the gaps, and leak, I hope? I asked a painter to give me an estimate to repair the ceiling and the shelf under the kitchen sink. I really want to use them again. After many months of needing from one of my sisters I called HomeAdvisor. They referred me to Charter Construction Inc. Don Norwood showed up at the correct time. Took measurements and told me what he would have would do, and what the repairs would cost. I asked Don how long the job would take and he said two and a half days, and that it would look as good as the rest of the living room. I don't know if could see how eager I was to sign but he was ready to start next Monday. I said I needed some time to get my mother to appointments and back to the second floor. I think the work started January 19th 2018 and finished about noon on the 21st. The CCI crew made an excellent repair, painted the entire living room and also repaired the shelf under the kitchen sink. Oh Yeah, left the place so clean that OK better stop there. Several weeks later I was told there was stain on the kitchen ceiling. No problem, I'll just call Don. He had the ceiling opened and discovered there was a leak in an eighty plus year ols showe drain piper. Don aldo has his crew repair a leak in the washing machine shut off valve box and moved the valve box so I didn't have to reach behind the washing machine. Don had the crew paint the entire kitchen ceiling in addition the area was left absolutely clean. I do have more work for CCI, like repairing the window scree on the new windows, to defuse the reflected sunlight the acts like a death ray on the front lawn and melted the windshield wipers on our car. The gardener says it feels like 140 degrees. CCI and Don could work with This Old House."

"They are awesome!  These two wonderful, professional men did an amazing job overall.  We appreciate their punctuality, cleanliness, efficient use of paint and supplies.  Their prep work was on target making the end result look fantastic.  We couldn't have asked for a better job on anything they did.  We will hire them again in an instant for any new work that comes up.  Marco didn't alter his original quote and even performed a few additional tasks he saw that needed to be repaired without charging extra.  What a pleasure it was having them work in our home."

Barndominium Builders questions, answered by experts

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

Any type of construction that damages a tree’s roots via soil compaction can be dangerous, and is one of the primary causes of mature tree death in residential areas. Simply putting lots of weight on the ground around the tree, like construction supplies, trailers, and equipment, can kill roots near the surface. Of course, installing new foundations, patios, or utility lines can cut through nearby tree roots. Accidentally striking a tree with equipment or supplies is rarely a problem, but can cause damage of its own, too.

It is recommended that you check with your local building official on barn building requirements and rules, since size restrictions vary greatly from region to region based on what your property is zoned for. Some cities limit barn construction depending on if your property is residential or commercial. The three main factors your building commission will evaluate are:

  • Height and lot coverage: How tall your barn is and how much of your total property it occupies

  • Setback: Distance between barn and property line

  • Easement: Legal right for another owner to access another’s property

Tiny houses, often called tiny homes, need between 100 to 400 square feet, with the most common size being between 200 and 300 square feet. Tiny houses more than 400 square feet venture into apartment-size dwellings and may be considered more of a traditional house than a tiny home. The number of occupants, desired lifestyle, and furniture will all be major factors that determine the desired tiny house size.

Your foundation contractor will first need to remove the topsoil and any vegetation within 4 feet of the area around the barn. They’ll need to ensure they have clear access to the site to begin excavation, after which they can begin construction.
