My experience with KN Remodeling was not a positive one, and I feel that it is only fair to other Angie's List members to give an honest review without sugar coating anything. I contacted Nathan based upon his Angie's List deal for a $1,899 patio cover. Nathan came out and measured the space, agreeing to honor the deal that I had viewed online. We scheduled his designer to come out that following Monday to remeasure the space properly, with the goal of installing the structure by the end of that week. I was given a window of 3-5pm which is when his designer would come, and I made sure to be home during that window. Liron, the foreman, arrived at my home at 6:00pm - not within the window that I had been given. I should have known from that moment that I was going to have some issues, however I chose to chalk it up to traffic and moved forward. Liron measured the space and told me that they would probably be back on Friday to install the product. That week, I had not heard from Nathan regarding the installation. I contacted him and asked for a timeframe for Friday, and Nathan told me that he and his guys did not have the chance to pick up my product and the installation was going to be moved to the following Monday. Again, I was irritated, but I do understand that people are busy. He told me that he would text me over the weekend with a window to let me know when his guys would be arriving on Monday. When I had not heard from Nathan, I reached out to him on Sunday night...the day before installation. He told me that his guys would be arriving at 12 and would be at my home from 12-2pm installing the structure. On Monday the 29th, I took the day off of work to be home for the installation. At 12:51pm, I texted Nathan to let him know that his guys had yet to arrive at my house and that they were an hour late. He responded at 1:15, to let me know that his guys had arrived. Liron, the foreman, arrived with his crew an hour and fifteen minutes late. Nathan, the owner, did not come to supervise the project. At around 4pm, I no longer heard noise coming from my yard. I walked outside to find Liron, the foreman, cleaning up his tools. As I was standing there looking at the structure, I began noticing that there were visible dark scratches all over the patio cover. I mentioned to Liron that there were scratches all over the patio cover, and then I began showing him some other things that I noticed including the fact that front support beams were cut unevenly and were not flush to the ground and the upper lattice beams were not installed evenly. Liron told me that his guys would fix the front beams and that he would fix the paint issue. He came back into my yard with a can of white spray paint and began spraying all of the areas with the scratches, took my hose and sprayed off my concrete slab and then left my yard. I assumed that he was going to get his guys to bring them back, as he told me that they were going to fix the front support posts, but Liron left. His guys did not come back. I stood in my yard waiting for him and, while I was there, I noticed that the structure was already pulling out of the side of my house. You could visibly see the screws pulling outward. I Emailed Nathan immediately and attached photos of the absolutely awful work that his guys did. I told him that I was expecting him to come the following day to discuss this issue with me, as it needed to be remedied immediately. I informed Nathan that I was advised by the manufacturer to not allow my own children to play in my yard, as the structure was not installed properly. He responded by text to let me know that his guys would be coming three days later, on Thursday, to fix the problem. He told me that he was going to text me on Wednesday with a timeframe. I did not hear from Nathan on Wednesday. I Emailed him on Thursday morning, letting him know that he never gave me a timeframe for the work that was supposed to be happening that day. I received a somewhat hostile response via text message at 7:18am on the morning the work was supposed to happen, "First of all, I told you I will call you today to let you know what time the guys would be there." I responded back to Nathan and let him know that I had, in writing, that he was supposed to notify me on Wednesday afternoon. He apologized and told me that his guys would be arriving at 12pm. Again, I waited. I texted Nathan at 12:30. No response. I texted Nathan at 1:49pm. No response. I then chose to Email Nathan, letting him know that I wanted a copy of his business insurance policy so that I could file a claim to have the structure removed and properly installed by a certified professional. At 2:30pm, two and a half hours late, Liron pulled up in front of my home. He did not apologize for being 2.5 hours late and blamed it on traffic. I brought him into my yard and began to explain to him all of the things that needed to be changed, and asked him why he did not install the structure properly. I specifically asked him why he did not install a ledger board into the side of my home to hold the weight of the structure, as I have a stucco house. His response? "I used wood screws and screwed directly into the studs." I showed him where the screws were pulling out and he responded with, "Maybe I didn't screw them in all of the way." Liron and his guys did not disassemble the structure. He did remove the front support poles and cut them nearly flush to the ground. His guys then held the structure while he lag bolted a board into the side of my home and re-screwed the rafters into that, however, I am unsure if the caulked the holes that he unnecessarily drilled into my stucco the first time. He left metal pieces all over my hard, screws, chunks of styrofoam, and scratched up my concrete slab. There are areas where they caulked seams and it is awfully messy...and once again, there are scratches on the materials that were not fixed. Nathan never came by, as he was out of town. On March 10th, he texted me asking if he could come by and pick up a check. He never apologized for the fact that his guys were so late, he never offered to come by to see their work, and he never offered me any kind of discount for any of the trouble that this guys caused me. He showed up at my home for a check without warning, without giving me notice, and began to bombard me with text messages even though I was working. We then realized that we were never given warranty information for this product, and that the product that Nathan installed was NOT the product we agreed upon. We had asked for the Alumawood product and Nathan installed a Duracool product. I filled out the warranty information on the Duracool website and received a response that they would be processing our information soon. We told Nathan that we would not be paying him a dime for this until we verified that the product was actually covered. I asked him for the phone number prior to spring break and after spring break, I received a text message from Nathan threatening to send me to collections if I did not pay him. Nathan is picking up his check today and I'm glad to have this situation done and over with. We will never use KN Remodeling for any of our future projects, nor will we recommend them to anyone who needs to have work done on their home. Our experience was so unpleasant and this has caused such a headache, that the money we saved by using the Angie's List deal would've been better spent with a contractor who is actually on site and has professional, punctual, respectful crews.
