"Use these folks if you can. I set a meet with Ramiro. He was on time, masked and using good Covid protocol. He checked out an existing well for a pump installation. He did a trial run & was excellent explaining the factors he was considering before recommending I NOT go ahead with the project. Honest enough not to sell you something you won't be happy with & you don't need. That's real service. Thanks Ramiro. Bennett K"

"My wife and I bought a house a couple years ago, and became owners of a radiant heating systems installed more than 20 years ago. Tony and Damian did a great job of understanding how my radiant heating system works, what repairs were needed/what was failing, and where upgrades were needed. They replaced the pump, both expansion tanks, and the neutralizer. Additionally, they noticed the hot water tank was installed incorrectly, and the hot and cold water connections were flipped. It's amazing the system worked, and it's nice to have a system that's correctly installed (even if it's 20 years later!). Additionally, they secured the expansion tanks to the wall (now required by code), replaced the deteriorating copper pipes connected to the neutralizer with plastic (I'm sure this is code now as well), and re-routed the overflow pipes to the outside (rather than the floor!). You can't go wrong with these guys, well done, they're true craftsmen to the trade."

"**Highly recommend FDL Plumbing!** Francisco from FDL Plumbing was prompt, professional, and efficient. He arrived at 10am to diagnose my water heater issue and clearly explained my options. After discussing pricing, we agreed to proceed, and Francisco had a new unit installed by 11:45am, exceeding his initial timeframe. Francisco was a pleasure to work with â he completed the job expertly while maintaining a friendly demeanor. His work ethic and competitive pricing (especially for San Francisco) were refreshing. Thank you, Francisco, for the outstanding service!"

"My plumber?s name is Robert. He didn?t just do a good job but an excellent job. Why I said this. It?s already hard waking up in the morning. When all of a sudden you don?t have hot water. Called them and within the time frame he gave over the phone he was there on the dot. Gave me a reasonable price and replace my water heater. Excellent job."

Small jobs welcome

"We had three projects that were waiting for us to find the right plumber. We had a lot of trouble with the work that other plumbers did and needed to get two leaking sinks and a new heat regulator installed so they would last, not just be quick fixes that last for only a few months. Trinidad came within an hour of my connecting with Mighty Plumbing, really took the time to think through the problems and fixed one of the leaking sinks without needing to replace the garbage disposal which we were expecting to have to do. He is now researching the best size new garbage disposal for the other sink to order and we are getting the specialty part that is needed for the shower faucet, and then he will come back and install them. We are amazed at his careful and expert understanding of what was needed, his personable explanations, and his problem solving approach to challenges, because everything in our old house is not "standard textbook". And thank you Home Advisor. This is the third time we have used your services and each time we have had an excellent experience with the experts you send to us. Next time we have a project we won't wait so long wondering who to get to do it. Home Advisor is a wonderful service that we don't hesitate to recommend highly to friends and family!"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Inspect the pump annually, test the float switch, and clean the discharge line to ensure efficient operation.

Yes, you can add a battery to your existing sump pump. There are batteries available that can be plugged into your existing system; however, most battery backups come as a complete system and act as a replacement for your existing sump pump.

You shouldn’t shower while a sump pump isn’t working. Although household wastewater isn’t supposed to go into the sump pit, it’s best to wait to shower until your sump pump is running properly and able to move excess water out of the basement. If you need to shower when the sump pump isn’t working, aim for a short shower.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.

A water pressure booster doesn't require special maintenance. Like any house system, inspections should be a regular part of your annual schedule. Check for leaks, faulty valves, pressure loss, and mineral build-up. Pressure loss could be a result of mineral build-up, and you can descale the system with a vinegar and water solution.
