"Global Comfort installed a full HVAC system in my home; 7 new runs for air, new AC unit, new furnace and a new Nest thermostat, all electrical needs. Rudy and his team are respectful, efficient, punctual, competitive in pricing. Rudy walked me through running the system for its first time and explained all the stuff for a brand new system in a house that never had AC. I'm very thankful for the work they did. Highly recommend because their customer service is top notch."

Small jobs welcome

"Rasu was AMAZING! I had a very unusual clog in my dryer duct and he stayed and worked on it! He took the time to make sure my dryer was working correctly as well. He went above and beyond. I would recommend him over and over! Am using him for my air vents and chimney sweep services. Heâ s honest, fair, ckeaned up after the job was complete, polite and his price was extremely fair ."

"Albert Nahman PHC installed new AC and Furnace for my house. I like them for several reasons -- 1. At first Tom explained in detail what equipment I need and how they work, and gave me a reasonable and detailed quote at end of the visit. 2. They offer interest free finance. 3. I got free upgrade for furnace when the original quoted is not available. 4. Their installer did good job, and cleaned up afterward. I highly recommend this company."

"I was so pleased with this company! Victor came out at 9:00 on a Wednesday night, determined that I needed a part for my AC, said he anticipated it should be in by Friday. What do you know...on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., I received a call saying a technician could install the part. By 7:00, voila, I had air conditioning!!! Jorge told me Victor absolutely impressed upon him that I needed AC...tonight. Many thanks for the prompt, friendly service and detailed explanations. Yes, I would wholeheartedly recommend this company of conscientious, responsive professionals!"

"My job was cleaning of Air Ducts and dryer vent which is not on the drop down list provided. I spoke with several companies to see about quotes and scheduling. a clean out for my dryer vent before I had a new dryer installed. Silicon Valley Air Experts called me right away, listened to the job and provided a transparent initial assessment and cost estimate. While talking to them I also learned about cleaning all the air ducts, which I hadn't done in some time. They showed up on time, completed all of the work efficiently and cleaned up afterward. I plan to use them again in the future. It was a wonderful experience."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

For the most part, you should leave your AC fan in “auto” mode so that it only runs during a heating or cooling cycle. Keeping it in this position uses less energy, which equals lower utility bills. However, there are some situations where it’s better to leave your AC fan on, including if you have allergies or there are lots of people in your home.

Setting your AC unit to 78 degrees can, indeed, help you save energy. In fact, according to experts, every degree you turn the unit up could save you between 1% and 3% on your energy bills. That said, turning your unit off entirely while you’re out might actually be less efficient than keeping it on at a higher temperature. Why? The unit will need to work extra hard to cool the house back off again after all those hot hours.

A damper motor can last up to 15 years, but it can wear out more quickly than that if you run your HVAC unit a lot. So you might expect a longer life in a colder climate than if you live in a warmer climate.

A frosty expansion valve that isn't blowing out cool air is a sure sign that it’s time to replace it. It might also be time to replace the TXV valve if your AC unit switches off soon after turning on or if you have poor airflow in your home.

Many factors affect how much adding air conditioning will cost you, from the size of your home to the size, type, brand, and installation specifics of the system itself. Chances are, a new central air conditioning system for a 2,000-square-foot house will cost somewhere between $3,900 and $7,900 to install, with an average around $6,000
