"Daniel Razo did an excellent job. Had a flood in the unit. He replaced drywall, texturized, and painted. Daniel is professsional, good pricing, plus on time, and works efficiently. We have several units and would use him again and also highly recommend him. Margaret Foltyn, La Jolla,, CA"

"Joe’s drywall repair is a very professional drywall subcontractor. It is refreshing to have such a dependable sub as Joe’s Drywall Repair. Joe show up on time, on budget, and finish on time. We will work with Joe on our next project and would highly recommend. Thank you for a job well done out here in Oceanside. This was a fast track job and it was great to see timely deliveries, quality work, and your work delivered on time. My wife and I were very happy with Joe’s complete work end to end."

"The quality of drywall and texturing work was excellent and the price was very reasonable. I called on a Friday afternoon and the work was performed the following Monday, just three days later, even though it was on a holiday (Memorial Day)! 1st Choice Drywall, Inc. will be my first choice for any future drywall needs. "If you're looking for a top-notch drywall contractor in Escondido, look no further than Ricardo Ramirez Santana. This guy's the real deal. From the moment he stepped into my office, I could tell I was in good hands. I called him up to replace the old plaster walls in my office, and right away, he was responsive. He got me a fair, honest estimate, and explained everything in a way that made me feel comfortable—no gimmicks, no pushy sales tactics. Just straight talk. Scheduling was a breeze, and when the day came to get the job done, you better believe he was there on time, ready to work. I’m a local real estate broker and I've seen a lot of contractors in my day, but Ricardo and his crew, they’re something special. The work? Flawless. I’m talking about smooth, even seams here. And the finish? Perfect. Thankfully, he didn’t cut corners. Every detail was taken care of. And when it was all done, they cleaned up like they'd never even been there."

"The crew was on time and cordial. The drywall was adequate. The painting was well done, especially cut-ins/transition from ceiling color to wall color, which we can never get right doing it ourselves. If we had any criticism it would be that clean-up was a bit lacking. To be fair, we did have a walk through at the end but there are things you donâ  t see in that moment. There was some paint residue on the wood door frame and door hinges that we didnâ  t see at the time. Clean up was a bit weak. All in all, we would hire them again. I give them an A-"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.

If you’re looking for a reliable plaster repair company, you should start by researching local companies in your area and reviewing their status with the Better Business Bureau. Next, you can contact the potential companies to ask about experience levels, get a list of references, and ask for examples of past work. If you have a textured wall, consider asking if they have examples or references for that particular texture. This method should help you narrow your search even further. You may also want to ask each company if they provide a warranty for their work.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

This depends on how much plaster is applied and in how many layers, but a decent estimate is around 150 square feet. If you are applying only two coats on a small wall, there is a chance you may only need one or two gallons for the entire project. If you are plastering a large living room wall with high ceilings, using one of the more involved techniques–like Scagliola–that requires several coats, expect the project materials costs to add up quickly.

Applying spackle is a simple DIY project that most people can complete in just a few hours. Even homeowners who have little DIY experience can complete this project in an afternoon. However, if you're uncomfortable with the project or don't have the time, you can always hire a pro to help.
