His personality, level headedness, his problem solving skills, knowledge of his craft and the ability to work with others so appreciated. While excavating for the septic Leitchfield, I had him do other work on the property, moving earth and building a retaining wall. When he discovered a huge cavern where earth had eroded to the point of danger, he immediately ordered everything and had it fixed in a few days. He was here on time, and he stayed on the job until it was finished. Here ever day. That isn't always the case, especially when unexpected things (like a cavern) show up and the job takes longer than planned. Everything turned out perfectly, we passed the city inspections on the first try. You can't go wrong with Austyn, he is someone you can trust."

"If you want a company that guarantees their work don’t choose Bellows. I paid a ridiculous amount for a new HVAC system and one week after install it stopped working. This happened on a Saturday and they don’t have technicians available for emergencies on weekends and they won’t reimburse for a company that does. They told me not to worry we’ll make it right but the earliest service date they had available was two weeks later. Post sale they don’t care about the customer or about the quality of their work. Make sure to choose another company for your HVAC needs."

A septic tank riser should extend to just above the ground level or slightly above it. The exact height can vary depending on local regulations and personal preferences, but a common guideline is to have the riser's top flush with or no more than a few inches above the surrounding ground. This height allows for easy access to the septic tank without creating a tripping hazard or obstructing mowing and landscaping activities. It's essential to ensure that the riser lid is easily visible and accessible for regular maintenance and inspection while being mindful of safety and aesthetics.

Good news: You’ll naturally increase the bacteria in your septic tank simply by using it. If you want to encourage more good bacteria growth, stop using products and household cleaners that kill bacteria, such as bleach and harsh chemicals. Never flush antibiotics, and make sure only water and waste go down the tube—not paper products, feminine hygiene products, or diapers.

If you aren’t sure if you have a septic tank or a cesspit, you can check your property records or inspect your drainage system. A septic tank has an outlet pipe that allows liquid to drain into a soakaway or drain field, while a cesspit is a sealed tank that requires frequent emptying. If you notice a manhole cover and no nearby drainage field, it’s likely a cesspit. Signs like slow drainage or a frequent need for pumping can also provide clues. A professional inspection is the easiest way to confirm if your home runs on a septic tank or cesspit.

While you can drain water softener backwash into a septic tank, doing so may cause several problems. One problem is that increased sodium chloride levels from water softener backwash can kill septic tank bacteria, decreasing the effectiveness of this wastewater treatment system. Another issue is that large calcium deposits can eventually stop up the drain field and lead to poor drainage. 

How do you set your well’s pressure tank? All you need to do is first drain the tank of water and find the pressure switch. Remove the switch cover and adjust the switch with a wrench—clockwise to increase water pressure, and counter-clockwise to reduce it. Each complete turn of the nut on the switch should equal 2.5 psi. Once this is done, replace the switch cover. All that’s left is to adjust the pressure of the tank itself using an air compressor and a tire gauge to support the new setting.
