"Hector and his crew are excellent! They work with my schedule and they work fast while doing an excellent quality job. They turned my garage into a palace compared to how it was when I started. They reinforced the garage structure and put up drywall on the walls and created a new ceiling with new storage area above. Then the taped, textured and painted. My garage is now the nicest room in the house. Thanks Hector! - Paul V. - San Jose, CA."

"Marc Eccher is a master craftsman at drywall. He's a mature, hardworking, second-generation contractor who really knows what he is doing. He carefully does his job in steps and takes the time to do quality workmanship. He is prompt, professional, and fair in his estimate. (I had him do extra work that we didn't spot early on and he didn't raise his original quote.) You will not find an easier pro to work with. Not only is he knowledgeable, but his manner is also very likable and easy going. I am super picky when it comes to matching new texturizing with the existing one and he did a great job. I was very impressed that Marc contacted me through HomeAdvisor, and he was very confident in his skill and experience. He was very sensitive to my strong concern that all finished work needed to match what already existed. Our job was completed today, and we are very pleased with the result. Marc's your man in the Monterey Bay Area and beyond if you want the best drywall guy around. UPDATE 1/17/2019: The review I wrote previously sang my praises for Eccher Drywall just after he completed my patch job before painting. I was very pleased with the results I saw unpainted. The drywall texturizing finish appeared to match my existing finish very well. Now, I felt I needed to update because the painter I hired took one look at the drywall job and said, "The man you hired is really, really good. You are not going to be able to tell the difference where he patched and where your old finish is"; Isidro is 100% correct, after his paint job, my ceiling where Marc Eccher performed his "magic erase job"; of covering up all the holes left by removing my old light fixtures and installing my new can lights looks pristine, just like it did when I purchased my newly constructed house back in 1990. It is such a pleasure to hear pros compliment and appreciate other pros on a job well done. I felt that folks who read reviews at HomeAdvisor deserved an update. Marc takes his time and his effort shows with exceptional results. I liked that no job was too small for him and he happily took on my smaller project compared to other homeowners who have major drywall work done by him. I have had really bad patch jobs done before by handymen I've hired and have been left disappointed. Hiring the right man for my drywall work who has had many years of experience, was easy to work with and takes pride in his work was very important to me and I am so grateful to have found Marc Eccher!"

"Lopez Brothers were very professional and polite. They protected the area very well to prevent messy drywall dust from getting everywhere. They were careful and efficient in their work. When i noticed that the finish wasn’t at a level 5 in a couple of places, they were happy to correct it."

"Painting our house with a fireproof coating and topcoat required specific experience, applying the FireFree 88 undercoating to a measured 30 mils wet thickness. We were referred to Jorge Osorio, Four Season Painting, as having done this before. All references were very enthusiastic, and the results bear this out. Despite difficult weather and smoke from the California fires, Jorge and his crew came from quite a distance and were here on time early each day. They all worked diligently until late, and cleaned up completely when they were done for the day. They painted our house, a deck, a detached garage, a large trellis and two outbuildings, gving excellent attention to power washing, masking, choice of paint, applying the four coats, and careful final touchup. Nothing was rushed, and they did not take any shortcuts. When unexpected requirements came up, they cheerfully took them on. Jorge and his crew struck us as capable, experienced, hard-working, honest and cheerful. We would definitely use Four Seasons again, and highly recommend them for any painting of this nature. We are extremely pleased with the final results."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

It’s always better to follow proven drywall repair tips and fix the seams that look bad. However, if you simply want to make them less noticeable until you have time to fix them, you can use paint. A darker color of paint makes bad drywall tape seams less noticeable than light-colored paint. Matte paint hides bad seams better than glossy paint does, too.

Plaster itself has a higher R-value than drywall. However, there are other considerations surrounding plaster and insulation. As a general rule, it's easier to obtain consistency in insulating value and quality when working with drywall rather than plaster. Plaster walls often don't contain any insulation behind the wall covering by design, and careful evaluation is necessary when choosing to add it.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

Plaster is a pretty tough surface, but it can still sustain damage from things like bumping against it, water issues, dampness, extreme humidity changes, and plain old age. Most plaster walls last hundreds of years and will only be taken down to the base layer when major repairs are required. Being cautious around the wall, not placing furniture against it, and ensuring stable humidity are all great ways to reduce possible damage.

There are a handful of reasons why your drywall anchors are breaking. Using the wrong type of anchor is the most common problem, so always make sure you’re using the best option for a particular project. That there are electrical wires or plumbing where you’ve placed an anchor or that your drywall is weak are two other possible causes.
