Paint contractor since 2003 and have been the paint industry since 1995. Not only does McMahon Painting paint Interiors and Exteriors, we specialize in refinishing surfaces such as cabinets and furniture. We also do epoxy floors, chip flake floors and epoxy clear coatings on concrete.
"I have lived with my freshly-painted kitchen, and cabinets, for about a month now; I wanted to give it a little time before I sat down to write a review - just to ensure my initial feelings of "Oh my God I love it!" remained steadfast. And guess what? I continue to MORE than love my "new" kitchen! It's an anxious process hiring somebody that you don't know, there are so many "what if's" involved, but I am here to announce that everything in this whole process, from getting the initial quote to closing the front door after Jeremy walked away on the last day of the job, went flawlessly. My first meeting with Jeremy was in my kitchen where he looked everything over so that he could then go home and write up a professional quote. During this meeting, Jeremy explained his entire process - what kinds of products he uses, how many days this job would take, etc. It was also during this process that he helped me decide to rebuild a couple of my kitchen drawers (and he has the guy to do it), since I was going to be painting the cabinets and it wouldn't make sense to have a fresh coat of paint on a drawer that was falling apart. He was right. But he wasn't pushy. He offered the service, but I felt comfortable enough that if I had said "I'd rather not do that," he would have still smiled and said "no problem." I received the quote within a day, and hired Jeremy. Jeremy's work, is meticulous. I hadn't had extremely high hopes for kitchen cabinets that are 28-years-old, but they truthfully look brand new. I was impressed with the prep work he and his team undertook - careful measures were taken to ensure no spray got anywhere it shouldn't; all appliances were covered and taped, and plastic was draped over the kitchen door/opening to ensure the rest of the house stayed clean. He took all cabinet doors and drawers home with him/to his shop, and he cleaned and painted them there. The entire kitchen was then painted: walls, ceiling, and cabinets. He brought the doors and drawers back on the last day and re-installed them. I had also purchased drawer and cabinet pulls, which Jeremy put on for me. When the job was done, I kind of just stood in my kitchen and said "wow." I have a modest 1,500 square foot home, a smaller kitchen, and this job has left me feeling like I have the most beautiful kitchen in town. Jeremy is personable, professional, and gives his attention to every, single, detail. He and his team did a wonderful job updating my kitchen and I will be hiring him again soon to start painting other rooms in my home. I have no hesitation whatsoever recommending McMachon Painting - if you want a quality job, Jeremy is the man you need to hire."

Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10 per square foot for both the material and labor. The cost will vary based on the quality of the plaster you’re using and whether or not prep work is required before the work begins. Wall prep can add up to about 10% to your total costs. Plastering exterior walls can be more expensive in many cases because they are taller and require scaffolding and safety equipment.
Repairing plaster walls is almost always worthwhile. Not only will plaster repairs make your walls look new again, but repairs of minor cracks can often reinforce the plaster and help prevent the cracks from spreading and widening. Additionally, hiring a professional to carry out plaster wall repair means they can let you know if the cracking is a result of a severe underlying issue. Catching a problem like foundation instability early could save you thousands, a luxury you wouldn’t have if you just repaired the walls yourself.
Plaster repair costs range from $4 to $10 per square foot for refinishing, while skim coating can be less expensive, usually between $2 and $5 per square foot. The price you pay for plaster repairs will depend on the extent of the damage, the type of plaster you have on your walls, and the accessibility of the damage. Plaster repair on the exterior of your home tends to be more expensive, as there’s a higher chance that ladders or scaffolding will be necessary to carry out the repair.
It is possible to repair plaster walls yourself, but it’s not always a good idea. Hiring a professional means you’ll have expert eyes on the damage looking to see if there is an underlying issue or if the cracks are just from normal expansion and contraction. Additionally, a professional’s plaster repair will very likely last longer than a DIY job, which means you could end up saving money over time by going with a pro from the start.
All plaster walls will crack over time with expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes, as well as from normal house settling. In these cases, the cracks will usually be thin and don’t mean there are major structural issues. However, excessive cracking, wide wall cracks, and cracks that span around corners can sometimes mean you have a foundation issue. Identifying severe problems is a key reason why hiring a professional for plaster repair is usually a good idea.
