Small jobs welcome

"The boss and workers were professional and cleaned up their mess of tree branches. They took the two dead trees out easily without having to climb either one. It took them 45 minutes from start to finish and I paid $800. A good deal for Evergreen."

"We’ve been at our house for 13 years and in that time have gone through 5 different landscaping companies. Green Life Landscape is our preferred landscaping company, we’ve been using them for about 3 years now and we are very happy with their service. The time and the care Jose and his team provide during each visit is really appreciated. I love getting home from work on landscaping day and seeing the lawn freshly cut and the flowers and shrubs looking on point."

"What a professional family-run business! I had 4 trees that needed to be removed (melaleuca, avocado and 2 pine trees). Abel is very friendly and knowledgeable; he spent a lot of time with us giving advice for what trees and shrubs would be good for the backyard. He arrived on-time for the bid, and when we accepted it, he and his hard-working crew were there the very next morning (a Sunday!). The team was great - polite and professional - and with their heavy equipment, they did the job in one day. They left the job site in great condition. I will be hiring Abel and Discount Tree Care Arborist to come back to plant two new trees and some shrubs. Thank you Abel and DTCA!"

"We called California Arborist to diagnose and treat several trees that appeared sickly. Derrick promptly came out. He was extremely knowledgeable. Derrick quickly diagnosed the problem and suggested a treatment plan. We had Derrick treat the trees as suggested. Wow!! The trees almost immediately responded favorably to the treatment. I've spoken to other tree "services" in the past and they invariably recommend to just chop down the tree. What a pleasant change!

"Hector came out to look at the project, arrived on time, listened well to my objectives, described his approach to the project (trim a greatly overgrown pine endangering two houses). His price was very competitive, approach was logical and he had the necessary equipment. So I hired his company. That was one of the best contractor hires I’ve made! The 4 man crew arrived on time. The supervisor reviewed the plan with me while the crew set up. Even though the project was complicated by a city tree we couldn’t disturb an close proximity to houses they found an efficient setup. By then Hector arrived and the team got started. I was astonished by how perfectly the trimmer took down branches that overhung the house. At the end they left the grounds and roof cleaner than when they arrived! Excellent job."

"They did an excellent job on seven trees we planted over forty years ago. The Ivy was badly overgrown so removal was difficult. The crew went above and beyond in the clean up process. PTS is very professional and I highly recommend them for any tree service."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You’ll have to balance up the cost, the value of the tree (sentimental or otherwise), and the risk factors. An experienced arborist will help you understand whether transplanting is likely to be successful. The cost and hassle of transplanting a large, well-established tree are often not worth it, especially if the species is fast-growing and easy to source. The decision depends on the age and species of the tree, the conditions in the new site location, and how careful the company is when digging out and moving the tree.

There are a few differences between tree guying and tree staking. Tree guying requires anchor stakes that are shorter and stronger than regular stakes and are driven deeper into the ground at an angle away from the tree. Tree staking uses longer stakes that are set parallel to the tree and are used for smaller trees. Consult a local tree professional to determine which method is best for your tree.

Trees don’t usually grow back after being cut down. Some particularly robust tree species may start sending up new stems from a stump to recover, but those stems won’t become a “tree” like before. Generally, trees don’t recover from being entirely cut down, which is why it’s important to be careful when making a decision. When you cut down a tree, it’s a good idea to make plans to remove the stump, even if it’s unlikely to grow back.

Trimming your palm trees once or twice per year keeps them healthy and robust. Caring for palm trees includes cutting off brown leaves to prevent wildfires and pathway obstruction. However, you don’t want to over-trim the palm tree. Cutting too many branches off will weaken the tree and prevent future growth. And it’s essential to have a strong, healthy palm tree during hurricane season to prevent safety risks or property damage.

You’ll want to have your palm trees trimmed during the spring, ideally in May, before hurricane season sets in, which generally takes place during the late summer. Palm trees grow fastest over the summer months. You’ll also want to trim your palm trees when you notice:

  • Brown fronds

  • Dry leaves

  • Flower pods

  • Fruit

  • Fronds overgrown in power lines

  • Frond encroaching upon your neighbor’s home or yard

  • Visible damage from a storm
