"They did a great job. They had it out on the first day (a Friday), and were back the first thing the next Monday and finished the concrete pour. It looked great. Their concrete finisher did a fantastic job."

"Alvaro Mantar did a very good job replacing the concrete apron in front of our garage and blending it into the existing sidewalk. About 110 square feet. Project included correcting the grade for better drainage and hauling away the debris. Job was done in one day and at a very reasonable price. I should note Alvaro was the only contractor who came on-site before submitting a bid. Other contractors just bid based on photos."

"Paul is a reliable contractor with a good crew. They came on time and seal-coated my driveway with great care for details. Excellent communications and none of the corner-cutting I saw from other less-professional contractors. I highly recommend Paul and his Pacific West Asphalt."

"This is the first time we have used LD Construction and we're very pleased with the results. Owner Josue ("Ho-sway") offered to come and give an estimate (in the rain!) the same day we contacted him. His price was the lowest of the three contractors we had bids from, including the addition of two steps we wanted that the others said would increase the cost significantly. The crew showed up on schedule and had the 18 concrete piers installed by the end of the first day. The job was completed within the estimated 4 days as quoted, and the result is a strong deck that will last for decades. The excess materials were returned by Josue to the dealer and credited to our account. I would not hesitate to use his services again for other home repair or improvement projects. A good experience all around."

Concrete Walls questions, answered by experts

While fumigation chemicals cannot pass through solid objects, they will seep into any openings in walls, doors, or other closed spaces. This allows them to get into tight places where pests may be hiding and causing damage, like termites ruining the foundation of your home. It also means that your home needs to ventilate for 48 hours before returning to ensure that no harmful chemicals remain in your space.

In most cases, you will need a building permit for cement work on your property. You need a permit for any project that adds a permanent foundation on your property—which, in most cases, includes even a flat slab of concrete poured directly on the ground. Building permits for concrete projects usually cost between $100 and $500, although this can get higher for larger projects. You can always ask your cement company if a permit is necessary for your project, and the expert will typically pull the permit for you to save you time and energy.

Through proper drainage solutions and compacting the foundation soil.

Yes, you can pour concrete if it rained the day before, but you’ll need to drain the construction site to ensure there isn’t standing water where your slab will sit. You might need to manually remove any puddles and set up drainage on your site to dry it before pouring. Moist soil won’t be an issue, but standing water will throw off your concrete mix ratios. Additionally, ensure there isn’t more rain expected in the near future before you pour.

Brick walls are typically more expensive than concrete walls due to higher material and labor costs. Brick wall costs can range from $10 to $45 per square foot, plus $70 to $110 per hour for labor. Meanwhile, concrete block walls usually cost $10 to $20 per square foot, depending on the material type. Labor for concrete tends to be less intensive and costly. Ultimately, concrete is often the more affordable choice, especially for larger projects.
