"Hired this company to hang pictures on my walls that were approx 25 feet high. Terrance showed up prepared with his tape measure, leveler, and everything that was necessary to make sure the end results were to my satisfaction. He was also very helpful in aiding me with picture placement. My husband and and I were very pleased with the work and will definitely use this company again."

"My kitchen ceiling lights completely went out over night. I called SB Construction and they set an appt to come out right away. In just a few minutes they knew exactly what needed to be done and got started immediately. They switched out my bulky kitchen ceiling lights with beautiful slim, fully adjustable lighting. I didnâ  t know my kitchen could be so bright! It adjusts from bright light to low light thatâ  s great for those nights when I get up at night. They also fixed the faulty wiring at the switch and replaced the the old face plate with a new updated face plate that has a slide control for the lights. They were quick, friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. They didnâ  t do any unnecessary additional work and the cost was fantastic! Thank you for your all that you do!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Even if you think you know how to build a retaining wall theoretically, doing the actual work is a completely different story. There are lots of nuances in building retaining walls, and the slightest oversight can compromise their integrity. Therefore, we recommend you hire a pro to build, repair, or replace retaining walls.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.

Options include concrete, stone, brick, and wood, tailored for specific design needs.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.
