Small jobs welcome

"Alex Ventura told me on the phone that my job (repairing or replacing an extensive concrete block boundary wall) was not the kind of work he still does (despite the fact that he has all of the experience and contractor licenses.) But Alex came by anyway and spent considerable time explaining what caused the wall to shift and need replacement, how it could be done, and the process involving plans, soils report, city permits and inspections. I really learned a lot that will help me when talking to other contractors. I guess some people enjoy sharing their knowledge."

"Tony and crew were great. The appropriate door was installed beautifully and the fence was fixed better than new. They were prompt, work was done quickly and thoroughly. We are also having him quote on doing our bathrooms and floors. In the quote process he gave recommendations to improve what we want done. This is intended to be a great recommendation."

"Joe and his team were absolutely excellent to work with. He was communicative throughout the process, made it clear when he would arrive and the expected timeframe of the job. He provided a comprehensive estimate of the job prior to starting and was patient with us as we decided the scope of the project. He was clear what additional costs we would incur for additional work. Payment schedule was clearly communicated upfront and he was quick to ask and double check on things to make sure we were getting the size and look of the walls we were going for. He and his guys worked fast, professionally, cleaned up after themselves, and went above and beyond to impact our day-to-day lives with an infant as little as possible. The work they did was top notch! Walls couldn't be straighter, grout lines more evenly spaced, or job site left any cleaner. We are thrilled with the work they did and will be sure to hire again in the future!"

"The crew did a great job repairing the retaining wall and a few brick steps that was damaged by a fallen tree. Would definitely hire them again for future jobs."

"George was amazingly friendly and extremely accommodatin of my schedule! He was hired by my property management company for the house I rent, so I would have had very little say in appointment times had he not been so communicative with me. I needed some gaps between the walls and fixtures in my bathroom and room caulked to stop ants from coming in, and he went above and beyond with the job to ensure every nook and cranny was taken care of. Thank you so much George!"

"Our backyard job included a retaining wall, patio, staircase and sod. Brandon, Oz and the crew did an amazing job on all aspects of the project. They brought a glitch in the stairway to our attention and resolved the issue quickly and that portion was finished the next day. They were straightforward, efficient and very easy to work with. We are extremely pleased with the results and would definitely recommend them."

"I am extremely pleased. David had started a complex job at my house. Including full featured kitchen, 1 complete bathroom, and 20 windows throughout. He is professional, clean, fast, precise, reliable and has great ideas. His work is so beautiful, my wife loved it. David and his craw always came on time and as scheduled. The installation requirements were very demanding particularly some crazy accents my architect/designer had wanted in my bathroom. Let me tell you, David exceeded the expectation and even in some cases figured ways to do it in a more cost effective way that looks far better than what was originally planned on paper. What also really surprised us was how David did small work that was not originally part of the original job. I had told David "sometime in the future I want this extra thing done". When I returned home one day though David said, "I have a surprise for you". I looked at the kitchen granite he had done and said , "wow that looks great". David then pointed to the other work I said I wanted done in the future and I saw that he had completed it all very professionally and top notch. What a great surprise it was, My wife and I were so happy. I'm sure that I will recommend him to my friends and everyone who come my way!!! I will use him for any other work I need done in my house. What a great guy. pictures coming soon!!!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Through proper drainage solutions and compacting the foundation soil.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Options include concrete, stone, brick, and wood, tailored for specific design needs.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.
