"I cannot recommend JP & his crew enough! Not only does our yard look beautiful, but the entire process from start to finish was absolutely seamless. JP came out the same day I requested a quote and started work the following week. Other contractors told me they couldn't get the tiles I wanted but Angel Sun was able to deliver. They were extremely communicative and walked us through the entire process. Overall extremely reliable & easy to work with. We can't wait to have Angel Sun back in the spring to complete our yard with greenery."

"From the initial point of contact for the final walk-through everything was spot on. Sean, Holly, and the entire Daulinghaus team was professional and friendly. I bid out five total contractors inland they by far were the most fair and reasonable yet qualified. They had a plan and they resolve my issue"

"Alex and Donavan were very thorough. Discovered more than what we called them for. We originally wanted information on sealing cracks to eliminate cricket infestation coming through cracks in stem wall. We were not interested in repairing foundation rebar which is typical in slab homes in AZ. They were knowledgeable and honest in their evaluation of our home."

"June 13, 2018 Ground Zero Landscaping LLC review. The owner Chad Bennett was pleasant and easy to talk to. I did not have a specific design or specifications for the company to use for my brick paver walkway and a 3-foot-wide border around the back of my 57-year-old house. So, Chad helped with some of the decision making regarding the pattern and how to resolve grade variations. The paver masons were precise with the difficult fits and quick to set grades and set the pavers. I asked for some changes to the original scope of work to include a drip system valve replacement which was accomplished by another employee other than the two masons. There were some miscommunications related to some fill dirt that was needed to fill a low area adjacent to the masonry. Initially some gravel mix (ABC) and caliche was brought in for the fill material which I rejected as unacceptable but Chad quickly found a source of “turf soil” and removed and replaced the ABC and caliche with the “turf soil” which I found acceptable. Overall: My wife and I were very pleased with the paver results; it improved the appearance of the house and will reduce the yearly maintenance. I highly recommend Ground Zero Landscaping with one caveat: it you do not have a formal design or specifications, as I did not, you will need to follow up as the work progresses with feedback to Chad and his workers to ensure you get what you have envisioned."

"Dakotah Construction was able to install a concrete in my property. The work was competent and the price was reasonable. In addition, they were able to work with minimal supervision and were able to deal with some fairly sticky officials (who were just doing their job, I guess). We negotiate contracts on a Request for Proposal basis. When we do our next project that requires concrete or excavation work, Dakotah Construction will definitely be at the top of the list of invitees."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A fireplace is, by definition, an enclosed space where you burn wood or other fuel for the purpose of generating light and heat. A firepit burns wood and is much less expensive to build, but they aren’t technically a fireplace as it isn’t enclosed. An outdoor oven—commonly outdoor brick pizza ovens—often uses wood as fuel, but its primary purpose is to cook food, and you’d rarely just burn wood inside them for warmth or aesthetic reasons.

The exact cost of bricks depends on the type and size of the bricks you use for your project. Generally, standard clay bricks cost between $350 and $850 for a thousand bricks, or an average of $550. Brick veneer costs around the same for materials but is easier to install than solid bricks, so you’ll save on labor by choosing this option.

Yes! Hot glue is an excellent—and temporary—way to spread holiday cheer with Christmas lights without damaging your brick exterior.

Staining or painting brick isn’t something to do on a whim. Make sure you really want to live with stained brick, because once you apply the stain, it’s permanent. Sure, it will fade over time, but you can’t restore the brick to its natural tones after applying a stain or paint.

Removing paint from brick can have both aesthetic and practical value. Some people prefer the timeless look of bare brick, making it worthwhile to remove old paint layers. Brick also lasts longer when unpainted, as paint traps moisture, causing the brick to deteriorate more quickly. If your brick walls are already in bad shape, stripping the paint off might do more harm than good.
