Customers say: True professional

"Art was cheerfully creative, and faithful in his work. What he said, he did! He involved us in the design and selection of plants and sidewalk pavers. He took our crowded and boring front yard and opened it up to be a welcoming and beautiful place. His whole team worked hard and paid attention to detail. We are more than satisfied with the project!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Michelle did a wonderful job helping us add additional kitchen cabinets, totally design our new baby's room from scratch (including an amazing mural), redesign our master closet and do a lot of other improvements around the house over several months as we prepared for the arrival of our first child. She has done work for my mom and my brother too. She's the best! If you need someone to come up with great ideas, coordinate all the details, and make sure things get done well - hire Michelle!"

"Very clean and professional. Roger and his team did an excellent job. We were installing canned lighting in our kitchen and front. Roger spent time with me reviewing the best locations for the lighting as well as the switch locations. Best of all, he did not leave me with a dry wall project when they were done. Will hire again."

"Jose and his guys are very dedicated to what they do. They did all new irrigation, lighting, grass, pavers and curbing in my backyard. Highly recommend him. You will not be disappointed!"

Lighting questions, answered by experts

You can take a few steps to prolong the life of your holiday lights. Make sure to replace burnt-out bulbs as quickly as possible to avoid overloading the rest of the circuit and knocking out more lights. Before packing them up each year, plug each strand into the wall to confirm everything is still working. Wrap the lights carefully back into their original packaging or something similar—winding a strand tightly together or leaving it to hang loose in a storage bin can lead to frayed or damaged wiring.

Yes, outdoor lights and receptacles should be on a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for safety. The outdoors is considered a wet location where GFCI protection is generally required. A GFCI enhances safety by automatically tripping and shutting off the circuit if it detects an imbalance, which protects against electrocution and reduces the risk of an electrical fire. While it is the safest approach for all outdoor electrical components, specific requirements can vary depending on the type of light (e.g., pool lights), its location, and local electrical codes. For guidance tailored to your specific situation, it's best to consult a professional electrician.

The lifespan of a pool light depends on the type, but thankfully, these lights are designed to last a long time before they need to be replaced. LED bulbs last the longest, about 20,000 to 30,000 hours, while incandescent bulbs last the shortest amount of time, about 1,000 to 5,000 hours. Fiber optic pool lights will last around 6,000 hours.

If your lights are shorting out during rain storms or other winter events, you should probably replace them. These shorts indicate electrical issues that could cause serious hazards. Look for outdoor-rated lights with connectors made for rainy conditions to replace them. But if your Christmas lights are new and you want further protection, you can find weatherproof covers to add to the male-end connectors of your Christmas light strings. These can minimize the risk of shorts.

Yes! As a matter of fact, there are many sensors that add motion to existing outdoor lights. These motion sensors attach to pre-existing flood lights and other outdoor lights without any fussy and potentially dangerous electrical work. Additionally, some flood lights and related fixtures ship with motion sensors built-in.
