"Very clean and professional. Roger and his team did an excellent job. We were installing canned lighting in our kitchen and front. Roger spent time with me reviewing the best locations for the lighting as well as the switch locations. Best of all, he did not leave me with a dry wall project when they were done. Will hire again."

"Project: Multiple power outlets and new lighting for my workshop, plus a new outlet location inside the house. They advised me on options, the estimate was very reasonable for the scope of work, the plus side was all work was completed that same day, I thought I would I would need to wait. Brutally hot day in the attic but these guys did not quit until the work and clean up was completed. Usable convenient power and decent lighting in my garage/workshop. Wish I had done it months ago. Definately use them for any future electrical on my home."

"Not often is service delivered perfectly so I need to call out Steve at Outdoor Xscapes. Every step of the process was perfect. From the initial discussion he was open and transparent about what would be functional, look best, and pricing. Once he had the map and design, he shared an itemized list of what he recommended, and if we removed anything to stay within our budget, there was no pushback or shady pricing changes. When it came time for the work to be done his team was professional and fast. Our entire backyard was transformed from desert to lush plants and grass within 4 days. As we had questions later on care Steve was always quick to answer and even stop by a few times. He was recommended by our best friends down the street for the very same reasons. We would highly recommend him. Great guy, great work."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

Yes, animals can trigger motion-sensor lights. In fact, this is a reason why some homeowners install motion-sensor lights, to catch sneaky little critters looking through the rubbish for a midnight snack. There are sensitivities to animal detection though, so you may want to look for an option that avoids animal detection as much as possible.

Modern outdoor light fixtures are waterproof and weather resistant, and, provided they’re installed correctly and by a professional, the fixture and wiring can last for 20 to 30 years or more. The lifespan will depend largely on the quality of the fixture. The lifespan of the bulb will depend on the type of light you install:

  • CFL bulb (for sustained use): 15,000 hours

  • Halogen bulb (mostly for security): 2,000 hours

  • HID bulbs (for security): 12,000 hours

  • Incandescent bulb: 1,000 hours

  • LED bulb: 50,000 hours

There are tons of different types of landscape lighting available, including the choice between solar and wired, incandescent and LED, and a variety of colors. Specific types of lighting include:

  • Pathway lights: $50–$150 per fixture

  • String lights: $50–$150

  • Low-voltage lights: $90–$150 per fixture

  • Porch lights: $65–$250 per fixture

  • Floodlights: $75–$250 per fixture

  • Downlights: $100–$400 per fixture

  • Uplights: $100–$400 per fixture

  • Security lights: $ 350–$500 per fixture

  • Lamp posts: $400–$1,100 per lamp post

Yes, outdoor lights and receptacles should be on a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for safety. The outdoors is considered a wet location where GFCI protection is generally required. A GFCI enhances safety by automatically tripping and shutting off the circuit if it detects an imbalance, which protects against electrocution and reduces the risk of an electrical fire. While it is the safest approach for all outdoor electrical components, specific requirements can vary depending on the type of light (e.g., pool lights), its location, and local electrical codes. For guidance tailored to your specific situation, it's best to consult a professional electrician.

Yes, most services include testing the system after repairs. Confirm with your provider.
