"Thermal Advantage did a great job insulating the masonry walls on my home. His crew was on time, answered all my questions, and now the difference in room temperature is noticeable. Well worth the reasonable price as I am seeing savings on my utility bill."

"Banker Insulation provided blown-in attic insulation over my existing insulation bringing it to R-38 value. They also added barriers and insulation over my garage area, which I recently added HVAC to it. They blew in insulation into the garage walls as well. This was hard and messy, but they did an excellent job! They were fast, professional, and cleaned up the areas well. I would not hesitate to use them in the future."

"Acra's dry wall work turned around a challenging project.  I was trying to manage building work in Arizona from Ohio, using daily calls with friends at the site to stay on top of the progress.  One day, the call was strained because of drywall issues.  I found Acra online and called them looking for help at the end of their work day.  After I explained my situation to Carl Smith, Acra had a hard-working drywall team at my house in remote Amado the very next morning.  The team from Acra not only did a beautiful job on the drywall, completing the rounded corners and attractive texturing I had hoped for, they also worked well with my friends and got the whole project back on track.  Carl came out to my house on  my next visit to Amado, to make sure I was satisfied with the work.  Wow!"

"It gives me great pleasure to write this review for Mike (My Handy Helper) because he is simply the best! It is rare to find someone that you can trust and rely on that will do a good job. I have worked with various handymen over the past 35 years, and Mike is the best person I've hired. Mike has been so helpful in giving me cost-savings advice and has a great eye for decorating, design and colors, which is a real plus. Not only is Mike extremely good at everything he does, he is very detail oriented, clean and tidy, and he is very knowledgeable, very professional, kind, well-mannered, and above all honest. Mike has the key to my home and has worked in my home while I was away. He has worked with me on MY schedule, even coming to work for me on a Saturday. Mike has replaced locks and hinges on all of my outside doors, he has installed new light fixtures in my garage and my laundry room, he has fixed doors that I thought would surely have to be replaced, and now they work like they are brand new. I have a long list of things that I want Mike to do that should keep him busy for quite a while including painting (interior and exterior), repairing drywall, installing a microwave, installing new faucets and new fixtures to mention just a few. Mike is easy to work with, and he enjoys his work. He responds to every phone call and e-mail. You never have to wait for a response. I recently purchased a home in Green Valley. There were many things that needed repair and several things I wanted to replace, and areas of the home I want to redecorate. When I first moved in I hired a landscaper and a handyman right away based on personal references from friends and neighbors. Both the landscaper and the handyman were a disaster, so not knowing what to do next, I decided I would join Angie's List. After reading all of the wonderful reviews on Angie's List about Mike I called him, and I am really happy that I did!"

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

"While buying a home in Sun City West our inspection reported that attic had blown insulation blocking all the soffit vents. East Valleys crew went to the home and spent hours checking the issue in the attic, in the August heat no less, and let us know that the inspector was mistaken and that the vents were free and clear. They even checked other houses in the vicinity to investigate further. Two other companies who refused to enter the attic ("I know what attics look like") proposed a small number of external OHagin vents instead which wouldn't have solved the issue if it existed. East Valley saved us thousands in unnecessary rework where other firms tried to take advantage. Thank you Mike and your crew!"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

You can skim coat plaster, but it’s better to repair the plaster itself. A skim coat is a thin coat of drywall joint compound spread over the surface of a wall. The result is a flat finish that looks pleasing, but part of the appeal of plaster is its imperfections and aesthetic. Skim coating is best when limited to drywall applications.

Beadboard is a decorative element and lacks the structural integrity of drywall. It cannot hold much weight and is not meant to be used as an insulator or moisture barrier, like drywall is. In almost all cases, beadboard is placed over an existing wall surface which, in modern days, is usually drywall, but decades ago could have been wood paneling.

You can usually tell if you have plaster or drywall by touch (plaster is harder, colder, and smoother than drywall) or by tapping on it (drywall sounds hollow, plaster does not). If you still cannot tell, peek under an outlet cover and check the cut edges. The rough edges show the composition of the wall. You will see either drywall (two paper sheets sandwiching gypsum material) or only plaster material (no paper sheets).

While not always necessary, you can glue a drywall ceiling in addition to using screws or nails. Drywall is typically secured to ceiling joists with fasteners, which is often sufficient. However, adding construction adhesive can offer benefits like preventing sagging, bridging gaps, and reducing air leaks for better energy efficiency. It may also be used for specific acoustic or insulation needs. On the other hand, many professionals advise against it because properly placed screws make the drywall structural, glue doesn't add strength, and it makes future repairs or replacements significantly more difficult. Ultimately, it's best to follow local building codes and project-specific requirements to decide if adhesive is right for your ceiling.

Regularly in areas prone to moisture or high traffic to catch issues early.
