"Jeff answered the phone and made an appointment with me immediately for the same day. He arrived with his wife and son who were very nice. He looked at the electrical panel to try to figure out why we kept having a short in one of the breakers. He said it didn't look like anything was causing it and that particular breaker didn't appear to go to anything. So he left that breaker off and everything has been fine since then. He came back another day to add an outlet in the bedroom, which took him a very short time - so short that it didn't seem like I should have to pay for an hour's work, especially after paying $50 for him to just look at the breakers and tell me nothing was wrong. But he did a good job and he did it quickly, and he didn't try to scam me into spending money that I didn't need to so that's fine.
The reason I gave him an F for professionalism was because after he installed the electrical outlet, he and his wife told me how they lost so much weight in the past week from a new product that de-acidifies your body. He invited me to learn more about it at an upcoming meeting. When I couldn't make it, he started calling me more frequently and pushing the "doctor" who developed it on me, having her call me too. It ended up that she was only a representative as well so the whole thing was some kind of pyramid scheme that suckers people with no scientific background into spending lots of money on useless diet pills. After he sent me multiple very long texts, one at inappropriate time of day, and I demanded that he never contact me again.
Bottom line ... Jeff is a good electrician, but if he starts to talk to you about weight loss, just say no thank you very strongly, letting him know that you mean it.

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, many professionals offer surge protection to safeguard equipment from power fluctuations.

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.

You can make a pigtail with either thermoplastic high-heat-resistant nylon-coated (THHN) wire or non-metallic (NM) cable, often referred to as “Romex.” Each pigtail requires a neutral wire, a ground wire, and a live wire. The gauge of your pigtail wires must match the gauge of those on the device.

You can distinguish the amplitude and voltage of most outlets by looking at the shape and positioning of the holes. Other features like buttons, switches, and USB ports help identify electric outlets, too. Use labeled images, like the ones we’ve included above, to cross-reference with your outlets.

240V is the standard for more demanding appliances in the United States, whereas 220V is more common elsewhere. The voltage isn’t very different in any practical sense. The United States is a newer country compared to many other regions in the world with a faster adoption of new electrical needs. Appliances in the United States are often bigger than other parts of the world.
