"We were extremely pleased with the work Dustin and the Advanced Drying people did. Unfortunately due to mistakes WE made prior to engaging them, the clean up was more complicated than it typically would have been. Dustin was great about explaining our options and developing a clean up plan that addressed the issues we had created before getting the AD people on site. The work was further complicated due to a hospital stay my mother in law had at the same time. Dustin did a great job at adjusting his work to accommodate the schedule we had to work with related to the hospitalization. The effort that Dustin made to both work with our schedule and remediate the unfortunately large area of contamination were greatly appreciated."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

No, radon mitigation systems do not decrease home value or make a home harder to sell. In areas where homes experience similar radon exposure risks, a radon mitigation system is viewed as an improvement. Potential homebuyers often opt to buy a home with a radon mitigation system already installed to reduce the risk of cancer for their families.

Ideally, no one will live in a house with elevated radon levels, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of serious health issues like lung cancer. However, homes with radon can be made safe through mitigation systems, such as active soil depressurization. Testing for radon regularly and addressing high levels helps ensure a safe living environment.

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is naturally present everywhere, it is impossible to avoid entirely. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking action to reduce radon levels if your home's test results are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.

If high radon levels are detected, steps include sealing entry points, installing a mitigation system, and retesting the air regularly to ensure reduced levels.
