First, check to make sure the doorstop isn’t blocking the door. To close the door, slide the doorstop as close to the hinge side of the rod as possible. If that doesn’t work, try moving the door bracket closer to the other side. Some brackets will have extra holes for this purpose, meaning you can slide the bracket over and reattach it without drilling new holes into the door. While it's likely that a door handle will sag over time, there are some things you can do to maintain your handles and keep them from drooping. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication, is one place to start. Inspecting the door regularly, at least once or twice a year, to make sure that the connections aren't too tight is another good idea.

The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame. Occasionally, you'll find a hinge specifically made for right or left-handed doors with different attachment hardware or larger plates on one side. In most cases, the large side of the hinge goes on the frame.

It is possible to install hinges backward, so be careful when placing them. Position the hinge so that the hinge pin faces the direction the door will swing. For example, if you're standing on the side the door will open into, the pin should be visible. Be extra careful when installing exterior doors, as placing the hinges on the outside for an outward-facing door makes your home much easier to break into.

There aren’t many problems with fire doors except that they slow down or cut off ventilation at the higher rating levels. The sealing around a fire door is meant to allow for a specific amount of ventilation and will need regular inspections to ensure adequate airflow.
