"AZ Foundations Solutions team was an incredible find for us in Benson! The process of foundation repair is really a work of art for this company and the crew we were fortunate to be hooked up with. Pier work done 10/17 thru 10/21 of 2022 - 13 piers were installed to correct our foundation issue. Poly work to be done 10/27 thru 10/28 so we are looking forward to getting the project finished then. Thank you to the following team members we had the pleasure to work with so far! You all were professional and very knowledgeable- greatly appreciate your sharing the information you did. "They are a multitalented and gracious team of workers who are detail-oriented and adaptable to suit your needs. They did a beautiful job creating a concrete block wall for us and also helped with a variety of bathroom renovations, including plumbing, electrical work, and tiling, all at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend them!"

"A -PAC was not too eager to do the job. They never called back after I discussed my chimney problem with Bob. Another company did the repair and did a wonderful job using 4 helical piers stabilizing and jacking the chimney up to it's original position. I would strongly recommend that you include this company in your list of foundation contractors."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

No, using a power sander on brick is not recommended because the force of the sander can destroy brick's fragile outer layer. Even using sandpaper on brick is discouraged because of the damage its abrasiveness can cause.

You can use normal bricks as cladding for a concrete or clay pizza oven or as a base underneath one. Fire bricks or solid clay bricks are necessary for an outdoor pizza oven’s floor, and you can use clay bricks for the rest of the oven.

Yes, you can technically use a pressure washer to remove paint from brick, but it comes with a significant risk of damaging the brick surface. A high-power pressure washer can be fast but may leave the brick looking unsightly. The recommended method is to first apply a chemical paint stripper, following the product's instructions, and then use a stiff metal bristle brush or a pressure washer on a low-pressure setting to remove the loosened paint. Due to the risk of damage, it is often best to hire a professional who can use low-stress methods.

Brick spalling—which refers to the crumbly, flaky, or pitted appearance that can develop over time—is caused by a few different conditions. These include:

  • Climates with constant freeze-thaw cycles

  • Use of non-breathable sealants

  • High-pressure water cleaning

  • Improper installation

While you can’t do anything about the weather, you can preserve your bricks by cleaning them with soapy water and a good old-fashioned scrubbing. Pressure washers may be satisfying to use, but they can eventually wear away the surface of your bricks. If you don’t have advanced-level DIY skills in masonry, you can hire a reputable masonry contractor in your area for your project.

You can turn a red brick white through a process called whitewashing. Whitewash isn’t a stain but rather is made from water and white latex paint. Adding more water to the mix will make the solution look lighter when applied, and adding more paint will make it look more white.
