"I initially was looking for service on my home pump. I got a call from Steve. Considering it's a Sunday, he called me pretty quick. Upon him asking questions about my pump issues, etc, he proceeded to run me through steps I could take to help get it working again without him coming out. I tried his steps and low and behold my pump started working! I called Steve back and praised him and said what I did. He actually told me how I could fix the problem in the future if it happens again. In this day and age where people don't care about others, I am beyond impressed with my experience today. THANK YOU Steve! You have no idea how you helped me today! I will happily have him or his team come out anytime to work on any future problems as I know I can TRUST him!!!!! Thanks again Steve. "This company reached out to us right away and scheduled for our tank to be pumped out the next day. Surprisingly for us, they called and came out the same day. Their team of excellence got the job done efficiently and got our septic working again. I would highly recommend this company for all your plumbing needs."

Wells and Pumps questions, answered by experts

Servicing includes cleaning filters and coils, checking coolant levels, and inspecting electrical connections.

If you have a well-related issue, such as your well water stopping, you should hire a local water well contractor or a well and pump repair professional. These specialists handle all aspects of wells, including the pump, tank, and other outdoor water pumping equipment. They can inspect your system, recommend and perform repairs, and even coordinate a water quality test if needed. While plumbers are experts in indoor plumbing, they may not have the specialized experience with residential wells that a dedicated well contractor does.

If the well pump is more than 10 years old, it's worth contacting a well pump repair pro near you and weighing the cost of repairs against buying a new well pump. Pumps can last a long time with regular maintenance, but if your pump is nearing the 10-year mark and starts needing repairs frequently, it’s time to replace it.

The pressure in a well pressure tank should be set 2 to 3 PSI below the pump's cut-on pressure. The cut-on pressure is the lower number in the pressure setting (e.g., the '30' in 30/50 PSI) and is the point at which the pump starts. The cut-out pressure is the higher number, where the pump stops.

For example:

  • If your pressure switch is set to 30/50 PSI, the tank pressure should be 27-28 PSI.

  • If your pressure switch is set to 40/60 PSI, the tank pressure should be 38 PSI.

Common pressure settings for household applications include 20/40, 30/50, and 40/60 PSI. The difference between the cut-on and cut-out pressure is typically 20 PSI.

A well does not run out of water because the groundwater continues to refill with rainwater that seeps through the ground. If the well is too shallow or there is a drought, a well can run dry or be short in supply. It’s important to have a well deep enough to source enough water for your home’s use. Deeper wells tap into more groundwater reserves. If your well is not producing enough water, you may need to redig your well.
