"We had 2 other businesses tell us that we had to have a fireplace insert and new pipe (30 ft long and on a very steep roof) placed down the chimney because the tile mortar was missing, a repair that was going to cost $11,500. Nathan came and assessed the chimney and said that the tile mortar is intact, but that the creosote lining the chimney had experienced a fire and had to be removed with PCR, which he will do in 2 weeks. He is repairing other things on the chimney another company had attempted to fix but hadn't. He provided photos to verify all he told us. The total repair will be less than $2000. He is responsive to texts and emails and provides written estimates. Though the job isn't finished yet, we feel like we have found a chimney professional we can use for the future."

"We experienced roof and chimney damage after the October 2019 tornados. Besides exceptional repairs quality, Top Hat and Jake in particular helped us work through the insurance process. While this may initially sound like a conflict, this was something we needed as we had never filed a claim, and the insurance company did not perform a thorough inspection. Once engaged with Top Hat, the insurance company performed their own more thorough inspection using a professional engineer confirming the problems Jake had found. Additionally, he helped redesign a chimney system that was lighter and LESS MONEY than replacing the existing chimney as is. Their warranty is also among, if not the best I have seen. Lastly, Jake is involved in the schools locally, and that is extra icing on the cake in my opinion."

"I have received multiple compliments on the appearance of the roof, trim , and house. The worked was performed as they promised and then some. They were careful about not destroying or damaging landscaping. They left the worksite clean and in good appearance each day. The business owner and his associates visited the worksite daily and supervised the crews. If I mentioned anything that needed special attention it was taken care of immediately. They saw little things that needed to be repaired during their work that we did not initially anticipate, they fixed these at no cost."

Chimney Repair FAQs, answered by experts

Regularly inspect older furnishings for scratches, dents, sun damage, tears, or insect infestations in upholstered objects. These are all signs that an object needs to be repaired, and tending to them sooner rather than later will ensure they don’t worsen with time and eventually require more costly refinishing.

When water penetrates wood, the wood swells, causing the wood and veneer to separate. This separation creates bubbles on the surface of your furniture. If water spills on wood veneer, it needs to be dried ASAP. Surface spills can cause minor damages like white spots and blushing, but if you’re slow to action, you’re looking at more work—and spending—to restore your wood veneer.

Yes, you can save moldy wood furniture by removing the mold as soon as you notice it. Mold can penetrate and damage porous wood, though, so waiting to clean it could lead to significant damage. If a large coverage area of mold grows over several months, you may want to ask a professional to try to save the piece. If the damage is bad enough, though, even a pro might not be able to save it.

Black stains appear on wood furniture when the surface comes in contact with water and metal for an extended time. It creates a chemical reaction that stains your wood black. Products that contain oxalic acid can remove these stains. Its bleach-like qualities can reverse the stains after a few rounds of application.

You should consider the time needed to clean and prepare your bedroom set for transit. A few days before moving, vacuum, dust, and clean your furniture with a mild cleaning solution. Depending on the movers and the services you pick, you might need to pre-pack the mattress and box spring in boxes designed for beds and disassemble some furniture by removing doors and hardware. Finally, don’t forget to take plenty of pictures documenting the pre-move condition in case you need to file a claim.
