Top Hat Chimney & Roofing

I selected Pre-fabricated fireplace unit repair because there was no selection for my issue. In August of 2022, I contacted Top Hat for a quote to repair my exterior chimney chase. The siding had rotted at the roof level. Upon inspection, I was given a quote of $4052.00. The work was not begun until November. They replaced the siding with what they called Hardi Board, but was basically plywood, no finishing. They mis-measured and installed it with the panels running vertically. The plywood didn't even reach the rooftop. After 5 or so weeks, the plywood failed - coming unfastened and warping. I contacted Top Hat and asked why this happened and was told it was my fault for not painting the plywood. They gave me a new quote to replace the plywood with the same siding that matches my house, another $5000. I am very unhappy with this company and would not recommend them for any outside work. I feel that they took advantage of a Senior who has little experience with chimney repairs.

We experienced roof and chimney damage after the October 2019 tornados. Besides exceptional repairs quality, Top Hat and Jake in particular helped us work through the insurance process. While this may initially sound like a conflict, this was something we needed as we had never filed a claim, and the insurance company did not perform a thorough inspection. Once engaged with Top Hat, the insurance company performed their own more thorough inspection using a professional engineer confirming the problems Jake had found. Additionally, he helped redesign a chimney system that was lighter and LESS MONEY than replacing the existing chimney as is. Their warranty is also among, if not the best I have seen. Lastly, Jake is involved in the schools locally, and that is extra icing on the cake in my opinion.

This company came out to inspect and clean my chimney, and stated there was evidence of a previous chimney fire with damage to my chimney (and documented with photos). They reported their findings and also explained that since repairs were needed, there is no point in cleaning a chimney first before anticipated repairs are made. Unfortunately, my insurance company disputed my claim and sent out an independent engineer, who stated he saw no evidence of a chimney fire (and also took photos). However, he recommended the chimney be thoroughly cleaned so that he could make a definitive determination. Based on his inspection, the insurance company denied my claim. I informed Top Hat of the situation, and they offered to come back out to clean my chimney and take more photos in order to document to the insurance company's satisfaction that there has indeed been a chimney fire. I would rate Top Hat's customer service as excellent, and I will update this review when final results are in and any needed repairs are completed.
