"I wish I could give a great review like all the others because they did some of it very well and I liked their process, but the fact is they did such a lousy job on parts of my shower that every time I use it I have to look at it and it makes me so angry they could not make straight lines, cut in a 45 degree corner correctly, make the shower panels line up evenly, or make my trim symmetrical. They also measured the glass wrong so it didn't fit correctly, and the glass door isn't level and out of plumb. The Onyx material they used is great, but wow, their installation of the shower was really lacking. Mark even agreed it wasn't perfect, but didn't offer to fix it. Sad!"

It depends on whether you’re looking at residential or commercial buildings. For residential buildings, the 2018 International Residential Code asks for a maximum riser (or rise) height of 7 3/4 inches and a minimum tread depth (or run) of 10 inches.

For fixed stairs in commercial buildings, OSHA requires a rise between 6 and 7.5 inches, with a run between 10 and 14 inches. The standards are different for spiral staircases.

Whether you paint or stain stair railings depends on your aesthetic goals and preferences. Some people prefer to stain because it highlights wood's natural beauty. But you may want to paint your railings if you're going for a particular color scheme. Paint may cost less than wood stain and is usually available in a wider range of options.

Railing height codes do not differ for indoor and outdoor structures. Instead, what will have the biggest impact is the type of rail (hand versus guard rail), what your local building codes dictate, and the scope or height of your stairs, deck, or balcony to begin with. 

A handrail should start at the bottom step's riser and extend to the top riser, continuing slightly beyond both the top and bottom steps if possible. A good rule of thumb is from the nosing of the upper landing to the nosing of the lowest step. This extra length provides better grip and safety when entering or exiting the staircase.

Stair runners are often easier to install than a standard carpet because the latter must be cut to fit the stairs with extra steps taken to prevent fraying at the edges. Stair runners offer extra decorative options, padding, and traction to reduce the risk of falls. They can also offer a nice way to transition from one flooring type, like cement or epoxy floors to softer carpeting on an upper story of the home.
