"David was my contact person and he was so helpful and friendly. The team who performed the insulation was also very kind and efficient. The job took about 2.5 hours, which was under the time I was quoted."

I was extremely impressed with Jonathan's professionalism and knowledge.  He has a background in home inspection and the evaluation included an examination of the exterior and interior of the house, including the attic and basement/garage/crawlspace.  His chief worker had worked as an electrician and he checked the wiring.  With these two, I felt I had a mini home inspection and electrical inspection included in this evaluation.  I had many questions about houses and insulation and I received clear answers, with reference to current building codes in my jurisdiction.  Jonathan and his crew arrived on time (or slightly early) for the appointments and Jonathan was very responsive to communication via phone or email.  They worked with my schedule and were considerate of my formerly feral cats, including the new foundling in the bathroom.  The work took place over two days and the crew cleaned up after the work and even repaired the ill-fitting access hatch to the attic.

I learned that, in older homes, there is much leakage of winter cold air into the walls since the tops in the attic are not sealed and that there are many areas in the floors and walls for cold air to come into the house from the basement/crawlspace, around wiring and plumbing.  These were all sealed and insulated.  The areas of ductwork around the point where it goes into the house (behind the grates) were replaced and sealed with insulating foam.  The hatch to the attic and the area around the whole house fan were insulated and weather stripped.  Weather stripping was placed around the doors and a blanket covered the hot water heater in the basement.  Insulation was blown into the attic.

The first thing I noticed upon coming into my house was how quiet it is now!  There are no drafts, even as cold as it's been this week (in the teens and 20s at night).  I'm sure the energy bills will be lower.

I highly recommend Jonathan and the Eco Three team!

"We had a really good experience.  The crew worked very hard, and did everything we asked.  When some unexpected things come up in regards to replacing a skylight, we improvised and came up with a great solution.  My husband climbed up on the roof to inspect the job, and the crew fixed everything he wanted changed.  When they left, they took every single scrap of trash with them.  Over the last year I have found 2 or 3 roofing tacks they missed, and we have almost 4000 sq. feet of roof. We were very pleased, the roof is beautiful, and we are happy we contracted with them. It was pricey, but we would do it again."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

The amount of drywall you need for a 1,000-square-foot basement depends on the ceiling height, angles, number of doors and windows, and more. To find the wall square footage, multiply the width and height of each wall, minus any gaps from windows or doors, and add the totals together. You’ll also need enough drywood nails or screws to install the drywall correctly.

The easiest way to cut holes in drywall for electrical boxes is to use a spiral saw with a drywall router bit. Hang the drywall without cutting out a hole for the box, but make sure you measure and mark where the box is located on the wall. Once you screw in the drywall sheet, drill a small hole into the box void, insert the spiral saw bit, and move it around the edge of the box using the inside wall as a guide. You can also use an oscillating multi-tool with an electrical box cutout for fast, professional results.

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.
