"All around great service, very professional and straight forward experience. From evaluation of roof condition and or damage, to working with the insurance adjuster to help determine replacement over repair options, Dunlop Roofing was top notch and did a wonderful job installing my new roof in just one day. An awesome company that I fell comfortable recommending."

"It was a metal roof, not asphalt, and of the five companies called Kevin Marshall was the only one that gave me a written estimate, and on the same day! They were able to get to me by the next week and completed the work for the quoted price! Excellent."

"I would definitely recommend ADK!! Kent was awesome! Communicated beautifully about where he was in the process. Did a very thorough and comprehensive inspection. Got the report to me with lightning speed. I was very impressed! If I could give a 10 star rating I would."

"We had a hole in our roof after a severe storm, and we needed it fixed fast and done right. Our realtor recommended Jarrett Jacobs at Pinwheel roofing. They showed up almost immediately, I mean within the hour , his crew showed up a hour after him with tarps , and 3 days later the roof was permanently and professionally repaired by them . The work was top quality and the price was very fair . We have since used Jarrett and his Co Pinwheel roofing again when our Trussville home also took a hit a couple of months later to the roof after a bad storm. Again they showed up and showed out!!! I HIGHLY recommend Jarrett and his Company for any job , big or small!! Thanks Jarrett for giving old school customer service ."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

No, you can’t use your home’s square footage. You have to calculate your roof’s square footage, and then you may have to convert your square footage measurement to correspond with how the roofing material is measured. For instance, some roofing is sold in “squares,” which equals the total square footage of the roof divided by 100. Shingles are sold in bundles that may not correspond to the number of squares you need. Metal roofing is sold as sheets, so determine the amount of square feet each panel will cover and then divide the total square footage by the coverage area.

You can damage your shingles if you use the wrong type of paint on them. You should always use acrylic latex paint specifically formulated for shingles. Other types of paint may trap moisture, which can cause bigger problems like rot and mildew. Considering that roof replacement costs $9,100 on average, it’s definitely best to avoid making this mistake.

Besides using the right paint, remember that painting your shingles will require increased maintenance.

Generally, the term “rolled roofing” refers to MSR (mineral surface roll) roofing. This type of roofing is similar to asphalt shingles but comes in a roll that’s unraveled and installed over your roof deck. There are many types of rolled roofing, including TPO, EPDM, and modified bitumen roofing (aka torch down roofing).

In most cases and locations, roofs with a single layer of asphalt roofing shingles won't require roof removal before installing a metal roof. However, underlayment may be necessary on roofs with moderate shingle damage. Heavily damaged roofs or ones with multiple shingle layers will most likely require removal before a metal roof can go on.

Venting a gas water heater out of the roof is preferable in most cases. Heated exhaust gases naturally rise, so a vertical vent pipe is efficient. If you’re trying to vent through a pipe exiting a wall, the angle of the pipe may be more horizontal than vertical, making the venting system less effective. If you go through a wall, you may need to add a fan to ensure a successful expulsion of the gases outdoors.
