"Randolph was the electrician who came to our home. He called ahead to understand the issues and do some initial trouble-shooting by phone. "Exceptionally satisfied. Our electrician, Ryan, is exceptional. He explained every detail and when faced with complex decisions his advice was top notch. One of the best we have ever worked with. The service was prompt, accurate, and in the end greatly added to the safety of our property. We feel we received a greater value for our money than we initially expected. Ryan always went out of his way to insure we were satisfied with the work he, and his assistants were performing. At every turn we found that he is a problem solver who gave us the pro's and con's on issues and viable alternatives. We will certainly use this service again."

"I was extremely pleased with Ontime Service. I received an advance email letting me know who would be coming to my home, with a picture I believe, and Sam introduced himself upon arrival. I liked that I could schedule an exact time for service and Sam was on time. They have a fixed pricing structure, so you pay for service, not time. Sam was very thorough and careful to protect his work area, and even helped me move my table back in place, which was thoughtful. I would definitely use Ontime Service again for my electrical or plumbing needs."

"We were extremely pleased with Corrigan and sons on the work they did installing a lightning rod protection system on our home. They did the work themselves and started and completed the job in a timely and professional manner. Hard working people, and without hesitation, we would highly recommend them."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Choosing a unit with higher BTUs can use more electricity if the BTUs are more than what’s necessary for your room size. However, choosing an AC with BTUs that match the size of your room or house, your unit will cool your space efficiently. On the flip side, choosing a system with not enough BTUs can cause the system to work harder to try to cool the space, leading to more electricity consumption and higher energy bills.

Aluminum wiring can pose a fire risk as it can overheat, expand, and contract, leading to failing splices and loose connections. If your home has aluminum wiring, it requires careful maintenance and potential safety upgrades. The first step is to hire a licensed electrician to conduct a thorough inspection.

A complete replacement with copper wire is the safest option but can be very expensive and is not always necessary. Other safety measures and upgrades include:

  • Copper Pigtailing: A more budget-friendly option where a short section of copper wire is added to each end of the aluminum wire. This is only appropriate for certain homes.

  • Aluminum-Compatible Outlets: Installing outlets specifically designed for use with aluminum wiring.

  • Anti-Oxidant Paste: Applying this paste to connections to prevent oxidation.

Consulting with a qualified electrician is essential to assess the condition of your wiring and determine the most appropriate updates to meet current safety standards.

No, you shouldn’t immediately reset a tripped breaker. If you don’t know what tripped the breaker, resetting it and continuing the actions that set it off could pose a hazard. It also means your breaker will sustain greater damage if it trips again. If you know the cause of your tripped power, unplug faulty appliances or fix the issues, then reset it, and wait a few minutes before using electricity in that circuit.

Outlets do wear out, usually within 15-25 years, but they can fail even sooner than that —sometimes in a matter of years. If your plugs always slide out after you put them in, this is a sign your outlets need to be replaced. Additionally, if your outlets are damaged, cracked, discolored, or regularly tripping the circuit breaker, they may be at the end of their life.

In the case of electrical overflow, an ungrounded outlet should trip the circuit breaker, staving off dangerous scenarios. However, this is not always the case, especially if the wires and circuit breaker are worn down or damaged in some way. Ungrounded wires melt over time as they are introduced to more and more electricity. In other words, a circuit breaker offers protection in most instances but not always, and that’s where the danger lies with ungrounded outlets.
