"Mr. Coffee is a hero who risks his health daily to help mitigate dangerous radon problems for strangers who call for help. This is a dangerous job with daily high radon exposure and when I asked, he said he is aware of the risks but gets his health scanned multiple times a year. I called Covenant Air back in December after noticing that my Safety Siren Pro radon detector kept reaching alarm. Mr. Coffee came out and assessed that I could probably fix the problem myself by sealing some obvious cracks, especially around some pipes, and recommended the products so that I can do it cheap DIY. He was obviously not pushy to scare people into signing contracts, but actually tried to dissuade me from hiring him right off on installing sub slab depressurization. Although the DYI route he recommended would've been cheaper, I hired him to performs the job. The sealing did bring the radon level down where my detector's alarm didn't go off, but I wanted to lower it as much as possible. He then recommended a passive ventilation route given my reading. The passive ventilation again slashed the radon level in half, but I wanted the radon level down even further, so I ultimately opted to install the fan after weeks of data collection and analysis. He installed the fan so that I could easily turn it off to save energy based on seasonal variations. He is a very personable and methodical person, and prefers to monitor the progress of his work so that his customers don't hastily incur unnecessary cost. You almost never see someone like that in the service industry, and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

"I joined Angie's List to find someone that worked on portable air conditioners.  My brother took the unit apart to get to the blower wheel - but he told me that he didn't think that he could get to the damaged part and even if he did, he wasn't sure he could put the unit back together.  My brother can fix anything, so when he gave up,  I knew that I needed a professional. I liked the reports posted for  "On Call Maintenance", so I called (on a  Saturday) & left a brief message about what I needed.   In a very short time, Steve returned my call & he told me he felt confident that he could replace the part & put the unit back together.  I ordered the blower wheel & received it on the following Wednesday.   I called Steve & made an appointment for the next day at 10AM.  Steve had the part replaced and the unit working within an hour.  He was professional, courteous,  punctual, & returned/answered all of my calls.  My unit works great & Steve even installed the hoses & weatherized the windows better than they were before.  I will definitely call on Steve in the future.  In fact, I have a plumbing problem in my kitchen - I think I'll call him now."

"These workers are no strangers  to hard work. They performed this job under freezing temperatures and in a confined and dark area of my basement. They went to extra extremes and additional work to keep from tearing up my yard. The clean-up was outstanding. If you have a serious water problem in your basement, this is the company you want. Very thorough and detailed with expert knowledge. Simply explain your problem to them and sit back and relax knowing you can expect the best.

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

There are a few ways to determine if a vent is open or closed. You can inspect the vent and examine the position of the fins. If there are spaces between them, the vent is open. If the fins are flat and touching, the vent is closed. You can also stand under the vent when the system is running to see if you feel air flowing through it.

Yes, mini-split or ductless AC systems add value to a home and do not devalue it. They are an attractive feature for potential buyers, especially in older homes without existing ductwork, as they provide a practical air conditioning solution without the significant expense and hassle of installing traditional ducts. Ductless systems also eliminate issues associated with conventional ductwork, such as noise and the potential for pests. Furthermore, homeowners value energy-efficient solutions, and mini-splits offer high efficiency for both heating and cooling, plus zoned temperature control. This leads to lower energy consumption and reduced electric bills, which is a major selling point.

Most HVAC surge protectors last about three to five years, depending on how often your home experiences blackouts or brownouts. If your unit is susceptible to more frequent electrical surges, consider replacing your surge protector every two years. Consult your HVAC professional to determine when and how often to replace your HVAC surge protectors.

Condensation forms when warmer, outside air combines with cooler air in your ductwork. This can happen when there are leaks in your air ducts, your HVAC system has a dirty air filter, or there’s a lack of insulation around the ducts. To prevent it from happening, replace your HVAC filters as directed. Also, once every five years, hire a local air duct cleaner to clean and inspect them.

A damper motor can last up to 15 years, but it can wear out more quickly than that if you run your HVAC unit a lot. So you might expect a longer life in a colder climate than if you live in a warmer climate.
