Since its inception Anchorage Plumbing and Heating has been a leader in the plumbing and heating service industry. Serving the Anchorage Bowl since 1989 our staff of highly trained and licensed technicians pride themselves on delivering the highest quality plumbing and heating service available. We have grown every year and now stand alone as the largest plumbing and heating service company in the Anchorage Bowl. We attribute this growth to a simple but tried and true premise that building customer trust comes from Honesty and Fairness. Not from saying you're honest and fair, but from years of conducting business in a way that shows that we care about our customers and would never compromise that trust.

"We signed a contract and provided a deposit with this company to replace a hot water heater. The estimator, bid sheet, and contract spelled out that they would be moving a washer and dryer unit to gain access to the water heater. After waiting over a week to have our hot water heater installed, the technician came out on Friday afternoon. after less than 10 minutes, they packed up and left. The technician claimed that he could not move the washer and dryer and left. When we called to speak with the company we were told that we would have to speak with Jeremy, the service manager, and that he would call us back. When we asked when he would call us back, we were told "when he calls you back". After several back to back phone calls requesting a time of when we could expect a phone call back, we were transferred to Jeremy. (he miraculously became available) After speaking with him, we were told that we hould have to hire a mover to move the machine. We told him this was not acceptable and that Anchorahe Plumbing and Heating told us they would move it. He then refused to do the job, and told us instead he would refund our money and would not discuss this further. We have waited over a week for this company to come out and fix a hot water heated in Anchorage . . . in the winter. . . . The company refuses to talk to us and we now have to wait another week to get a actual reliable company. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They will tell you what you want to hear to get your business, but do nothing to actually get the work done."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Water expands when heated and also when freezing. When water is heated, it expands by around 4%. For a full water heater, this is one of the main reasons malfunctions occur—the hot water has nowhere else to go but out. Due to the constant expansion and reduction in volume, it’s recommended (required in most places) that an expansion tank be installed.

Homeowners' insurance covers water heaters under certain circumstances. If your water heater is damaged due to a covered event, like a fire or burst pipe, your policy may pay for repairs or replacement. However, insurance won’t cover wear and tear, old age, or neglect. If a malfunctioning water heater causes water damage, your policy may help with cleanup and repairs, but not fixing or replacing the heater itself unless the damage resulted from a covered event.

Boilers are used mainly for central heating, and water heaters are used for ordinary household water use. In fact, a conventional boiler works best if your home already has a water heater system in place. Sometimes a boiler can be combined with indirect water heaters. But there are also premade combination boiler heaters.

A thermocouple is a pretty simple device. It simply tells the control valve if heat is present. Most water heaters can use a universal thermocouple, provided it's the correct length. Getting one that's long enough for your appliance is crucial for success. However, some water heater models require model-specific thermocouples, which is why it's essential to take your existing one to the store to find the right match.

Every type of water heater has its advantages and disadvantages. Understanding those can help you decide the best type for your situation and budget.
