"**DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY** WM Floors and I signed a contract to finish the floor and stairs project on Feb 28. Wm Floors broke that contract and it is far from being complete. I wanted to replace the master bedroom carpet and place rubber tiles in the garage. He agreed to help me with that as well, so we agreed that He will make the floor and staircase corrections as well as do the room carpet plus the garage on the week of March 21. I was "scheduled" for that week. Week of March 21 was the latest I was willing to accept the finalization of the project. Since then he has canceled on me 5 times. I no longer want WM Floors to do anything in my house. They are better with floors, but they have no idea about staircases. The staircase is a complete disaster. I was very understanding with them so, I gave them until the week for March 21. I needed to have it done by then because that week I had family coming to stay over from out of town. They came, it was super uncomfortable with all this mess. MOST importantly, the staircase is a dangerous/hazardous the steps are steep, tilted, uneven. Stairs are at didn’t heights. Most of the stairs are like this. Someone can trip, slip and fall down the stairs. There is a dangerous wood piece on the top floor on the edge going down the stairs. My mom tripped over it and almost fell down the stairs. She is 62 years old. My aunt with physical disabilities has to use the stairs to get to her room. The top stair below this piece is tilted down (steep) This adds more complexity to this section because anyone can slip on this steep step. With everything being uneven, wrong measurements, and wrong cuts, the posts are uneven and not secure. Many posts wobble back and forward. it will eventually break as we use the stairs and hold on the hand bars. I need the staircase to be fixed completely to prevent any severe injuries or worse. In conclusion, there are too many issues with the project. Everyone who has come to see the project have said they would need to start from scratch. It is very disappointing and frustrating for me because I needed this done by the end of Feb and we are approaching may 2022. Below are videos and documents detailing the issues. The cost of flooring installation is $3,000 for the average homeowner. This cost can range from $1,500 to $4,500, depending on the project size, flooring material, and any special features. For example, if stairs need new flooring, you can expect to pay about $11 to $160 per step. Additionally, hardwood flooring costs significantly more than linoleum, with hardwood ranging from $6 to $22 per square foot and linoleum costing $3 to $7 per square foot.
Believe it or not, adding new flooring—especially floors like hardwood, laminate, tile, or vinyl—can add significant value to your home. If you update your flooring close to when you sell your home, you can see up to a 70% ROI on your new floors. Adding new flooring to your home is one of the quickest ways to make the whole room look refreshed and new, which is a positive point for selling.
While you certainly can install new flooring yourself, it may not always be the best idea. Since the condition of the floors is a significant component of your property’s value, it’s important that your project looks professionally done. If not, you run the risk of needing to have them replaced again before selling your home. If you’re looking to save money on the cost of floor installation, consider removing the old flooring yourself to save on labor costs.
When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.
Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
It takes about one to three days for a two-person crew to lay 800 to 1,000 square feet of flooring daily. Remember that removal of existing flooring and additional prep work is considered during this time, and it’s likely that you won’t be able to pass through the room easily. In addition, you can expect lots of hammering and other noise from power tools during installation, so it’s best to plan accordingly.
